The Warehouse Project, a company registered in Chapel Street, Salford, had party goers fuming on Boxing Day evening as its door staff turned away people from Salford at its Hacienda night starring David Morales, 808 State, Mike Pickering and Graeme Park.

Despite having tickets costing up to £40, those showing their ID with a Salford address were apparently singled out, with one lad's furious mother telling the Salford Star "How dare they actually target Salford, I'm up in arms about this..."

The phenomenal Coffee4Craig project has collected around four thousand tins of food, turned its Salford office into an emergency night shelter and delivered food parcels to the needy. But the volunteers who run the project are angry at the Government, the Council and the homeless agencies. Meanwhile not one single Salford councillor, MP or Mayor has visited the Lancaster House HQ. 

The Salford Star spent some time in the shelter last night to hear the stories, capture the anger and see the great work Coffee4Craig is doing...

Despite it being Christmas and one of the busiest periods for police in the year, officers from Greater Manchester Police found time today to visit the home of a campaigner against cuts to transport for disabled people who took part in a protest outside the home of Salford Mayor Ian Stewart last August.

Apparently police officers told the campaigner that it was part of an ongoing investigation.

Now Salford Council is proposing to cut her care hours in half, the carers have left and she spends most of her time bed ridden.

Ask Shelagh what her Christmas wish is and she says "I want a life, I want carers to look after me. What have I got now? I've got nothing..."

Horrified and stunned University of Salford staff have threatened industrial action as two members of staff were physically forced out of their workplace last week in what bosses called `a redundancy matter'.

The workers, from the University's marketing department, hadn't done anything wrong but they were ordered to clear their desks and leave immediately, escorted by security. This is yet another appalling legacy of retiring Vice Chancellor Martin Hall.

Bez popped in to open the ace Theatrical Christmas party at the Salvation Army Housing Association's Abbott Lodge this afternoon which featured a kids' fairground, Christmas crafts, singers, cakes, a Punch and Judy Show and Santa.

The communal area was turned into a magical grotto as kids made puppets, biscuits and decorations, while a reindeer and Christmas tree paraded around fizzing with festive spirit.

Anti-poverty charity, ActionAid, is looking for one person in Salford to step forward and sponsor Hawa, age seven, from Gambia – who will then become the Child of Salford this Christmas.

In The Gambia, children often grow up hungry and malnourished and families cannot afford to send them to school. Whoever sponsors Hawa will receive a unique insight into her life and have the opportunity to form a connection with her to see how the sponsorship is helping.

A Salford mother who suffered horrendous domestic violence, after Salford Council failed to help her, has now had her children removed by social services, including a ten day old baby. Meanwhile, in spite of the Children's Act which states siblings in local authority care should be kept together, two of the older children have been split up and put in homes.

The mother has been a victim of shocking domestic violence, and now, she believes, is a victim of Salford Council...

On the eve of the Royal Courts of Justice appeal against Salford Council cutting transport for disabled adults, over two dozen people met in Little Hulton to launch SEARCH - Seeking Empowerment Advocacy Rewards and CHallenges Salford Community Committee - aiming to challenge cuts to services for elderly and disabled people in the city.

The meeting, at the Top Club, heard how care packages are being slashed, young adults with learning difficulties are being left in unsuitable day centres and how the axing of transport is affecting families' lives... "It's unbelievable the things they are doing" said one parent.

Arts production company Engine is currently working on `re-purposing' Friedrich Engels' beard as a full sized climbing wall, in a commission for the University of Salford's new art school.

Engels, the world famous philosopher and revolutionary who worked at his father's mill in Salford in the mid 1800s, never actually had a full beard during his time in the city. The Engels' Beard climbing wall has split opinion, with it being called both a `huge insult' and `imaginative and a little bit hilarious'...

SALFORD COUNCIL TAKES EIGHT MONTHS TO RESPOND TO ANTI FRACKING PETITION

SALFORD COUNCIL FINALLY RESPONDS TO PETITION – AND SAYS NOTHING!

Salford Council has finally responded to an anti-fracking petition eight months after it was first handed in. As events were unfolding at Barton Moss the petition drew over 3,000 signatures but, incredibly, campaigners only heard back from the Council today.

The Council stated that "The debate has to be about energy policy at its broadest level, and the way in which this either helps or hinders greenhouse gas emissions, it should not be a single issue debate about fracking". In other words, Salford Council is chickening out again...

SALFORD MAYOR LIVING WAGE CITY HYPOCRISY OVER POST

MAYOR'S CHARTER BROKEN BY SALFORD COUNCIL AS TNT POST GETS HUGE CONTRACTS

Salford City Mayor Ian Stewart has been lauded over his Living Wage City, Salford Employment Charter and Salford Standard schemes which oppose zero hours contracts and minimum wages. But Salford Council itself is using TNT – now called Whistl – to deliver post.

TNT/Whistl was singled out at the North West Regional Labour Party Conference recently, which passed a motion slating Whistl for its zero hours contracts and lack of living wage. In just three months Salford Council spent over £90,000 with Whistl, almost three times more than with Royal Mail.

MASSIVE RISK IN SALFORD OF PEOPLE LOSING HOMES STATES SHELTER

ONE SALFORD PERSON IN 63 AT RISK OF EVICTION

Salford has the second highest rate in the North West of people at risk of losing their home. A table compiled by homeless charity Shelter, based on data from the Ministry of Justice, shows that one person in every 63 is at risk of eviction, with over 1,500 possession claims launched during the last year.

Launching its Christmas appeal, Shelter blames high housing costs, and adds that in the North West as a whole over nine hundred children will wake up homeless this Christmas.

SALFORD ROAD CLOSURES CAUSE CHAOS

ROAD CLOSURES UNTIL SUMMER 2015 LEAVE RESIDENTS TRAPPED

"I'm a resident from Rockley Gardens and we are literally trapped..."

As two railway bridges in Oldfield Road in Ordsall and Broughton Road in Pendleton get closed for six months, the traffic has gone mad and residents feel trapped and in fear that emergency service vehicles are getting delayed.

Network Rail states that it will be opening Broughton Road again between 19th December and 5th January – just when everyone's off work. In the meantime it's chaos...
