Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the eighth annual Salford Star Mary Burns Awards, which are given out to honour the most deserving individuals and organisations in the city for their stupid statements, dodgy dealings and iffy activities over the past twelve months.

We are pleased to announce another new award this year – the Downhill Slalom Gold Medal For Collapsing Fracking Share Prices. And this is a collapse of avalanche proportions. So ladies and gentlemen don your skis and whizz down, down, down for the winner, IGas Energy.

THE DOWNHILL SLALOM GOLD MEDAL FOR COLLAPSING FRACKING SHARES PRICES

Ladies and gentlemen, just over a month ago fracking company IGas saw its share price collapse from 160 points in January to 56 points on 17th November. This week the share price has plummeted so far down that you'd need a bore hole and drill to find it. The IGas share price this morning is down to 32.5, while the official graph charting the wickedly steep fall would scare even the bravest Alpine ski champ...and Eddie The Eagle too!

The low price of oil hasn't helped, neither has the scandal surrounding IGas Chief Exec Andrew Austin, who has taken out a personal loan with Equities First Holdings, transferring a total of 7.5 million shares to the company, receiving £7,009,533, the equivalent of 93.46p per share, which are now only worth 32.5p (see previous article and comments for more info – click here and check the share price here).

Last month IGas produced a report confirming that it tested for shale gas at Barton Moss last winter and that the results were "encouraging in respect of the shale potential of the area". The company also confirmed that it will "submit applications for multi-well sites for drilling and hydraulic fracturing of gas from shale in 2015". If the share price falls any lower, IGas might not be fracking in Salford or anywhere else.

Sounds like Investor has lost a load of cash !! Get a grip our kid - do yourself a favour, get your cash out while you can, the fracking industry, including (especially) IGas are going down the toilet !! PS Investor, perhaps you might like to inform us all about the details of the financial scandal that IGas are involved in ?

What a horrendously biased and pointless article. You clearly have no understanding of the financial market at all. It has been a bad year for almost all small UK shares with the crashing of the global market and even worse for O&G firms due to the huge drop in oil price. You've even pointed this out in the article, with no reference to any issues associated with fracking. You offer no feasible alternatives and yet, I suspect, keep guzzling energy. Just because you are happy feeding Russia with our money so we can keep buying gas from them, there are many of us who believe in energy security for Britain so we can keep tax here which benefits everyone. Go do some research.

Can you get message to Stewart ? What go on with fracking ? Stewart and Whittaker say to us in Beijing lots of fracky frack ? Now we lose lots of wonga !! We even see Barton Moss Protection Camp on Sky TV, Vanessa Vine, Diane Steels, Gary Damaged and Joe Boyd folk hero on Chinese sub-continent !! We put all money in solar from now on, just like a Ban Ki Moon says...wtf?!

Oh drat !! We even got busted on the BBC Ellesmere Port Special Report !! So what if we can only afford tape to stop highly toxic chemicals from leaking into the environment ?? And I told that Austin tw*t that we should be getting into renewables years ago !! I've lost a personal fortune and all you lefties can do is take the p*** ? And it was all going so well until Salford City Council released that feckin' Press Release !! I'm off to put my Scrooge nightcap on, curl into a ball in the corner of my room and shout Bah Humbug !! Merry fecking Chrimbo to the shareholders but don't be expecting any of that free booze this year - we might all be able to crowd round a pint in the Dog and Duck if we get enough straws

KARMA KARMA KARMA You don't **** with Salford, when are folk going to learn that :) New era dawning #EvoManc Happy Christmas beautiful Star, you've been unbelievably awesome this past year in continually pounding the abhorrent iGas and every foul individual involved with them...but way better is to come next year and I can't wait to see the Star properly fly reporting on it all. The Star has always been ahead of the times but the times are finally going to catch up.....

A WHIFF OF FREEDOM AS RESTRICTIONS ARE EASED

Salford has 7 new coronavirus cases, down from the previous day's 14, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 30.1, down from 30.9. There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital.

Today sees restrictions eased and the first whiff of freedom in over a year. It's also the final coronavirus bulletin from the Salford Star which is closing. Here we look back over 14 months of the pandemic and the absolute communication failings of Salford City Council and its City Mayor.

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.
