THE ROME WASN'T BUILT IN TWO DECADES AWARD Goes to... SALFORD CITY COUNCIL Ladies and gentlemen...Welcome to the 13th annual Salford Star Mary Burns Awards which will be running online throughout the festive season. The judges have been hard at work this year ploughing through hundreds of well deserving nominees companies, politicians and councils who have made 2019 just a little less bearable for us Salford residents. If readers could dress formally, sip a glass of warm white wine and politely applaud at the end of each citation it would be much appreciated. So now...it's time to play the music, it's time to light the lights, it's time to meet the muppets on the Salford Star Mary Burns Award Show! While fifty storey apartment blocks, shiny office complexes and cycle lanes are built nearly overnight throughout the city, almost twenty years after it shut as the Mining Museum, the Grade 2 listed Buile Hill Mansion remains derelict in a shocking indictment of attitude from Salford City Council. And while the Council and developers pontificated, in Stockport, the recently made over stately Vernon Park House was hosting an exhibition which featured the Buile Hill Mansion dereliction that shamed Salford Council - see here At first, the Council was up for letting developer Capital and Centric build houses in Buile Hill Park in exchange for the Mansion's makeover. Then in February this year, after huge community pressure, the City Mayor announced that no houses were to be built in the park. Talk then centred on a possible land swap in which Salford Council would provide land off site from Buile Hill Park, and the rental would offset the costs of doing the Mansion up. Then, in August, the Council launched a public consultation, seeking residents' views on Buile Hill Park and Mansion, to "inform future vision and funding bids", while in September, the developer Capital and Centric held its own drop-in consultation event. The result of all this was Capital and Centric's Tim Heatley saying "The important thing is that everyone keeps talking so that we make sure something happens..." As we hit 2020, there's hardly any public talking and bugger all appears to be happening.... So, ladies and gentlemen, squeeze your secret gardens, juggle your Builes and give it one for the miners for the winner of the first Salford Star Mary Burns Award of 2019...The Rome Wasn't Built In Two Decades Award goes to...

| MCR town hall was built in 1868. last year, it got a whopping 330million quid to restore there TOWN HALL in Albert square back to its former glory. This restoration will take 6years to do.. Over in the CITY OF SALFORD, the buile hill mansion built in 1827 lies empty for 20 years now, salford council are doing #Jack shit# about this mansion. This site has got so much potential, the mansion when it's done FINALLY could be used for lots of different things. There is a BIG MASSIVE depot at the back, doing nowt. Maybe do what *Bob the builder regular* says, sell the depot land of at the back to the HIGHEST BIDDER to the people with the dosh. Let them build there BIG houses there. Let's get this ball rolling. This has been going on to long, farting about, I will have grey hair and a walking stick when there FINALLY sort this out. PS. Maybe there should just flatten the mansion. Darren has spoken. Happy New year. |

| Tommy two ways @ive read your comment and it made me *giggle* quite a lot, I was laughing my nogging off. I don't watch people in BUILE HILL park, my comment clearly says *Ive just passed* the park, while I was driving, I stopped at the traffic lights facing the park and I did see a dog dropping its poo. OK mucker. You made it out I go around looking at people in the park with a long coat on... At the end of the day, this park is used mostly by dog walker's, who some(small percentage of) of em do let there dogs poo in the park, there is bins all around this park, USE THEM. Salford council should employ a park warden in BUILE HILL to catch these people at it, maybe get a person that is on JSA(giro) and pay em a good wage, people like ROSSI. Over and out. Happy new year |

| That Buille Hill depot Darren goes on about. As long as I remember ,that site has never had any former glory. It has always been a scruffy old council depot. It has never been a park, it is surrounded by parkland. It is as far as I am concerned, a brownfield site. The best way forward would be to divide it up into say 10 super plots for rich people like some of the BBC types. Its a large area that does not need the extra traffic flow that a larger number of smaller houses would bring.Something needs to be done with that depot, something that does not cost money we do not have. That site as luxury plots could bring in 2 million quid. Regarding the mansion, I will be 6 feet under before they work out what to do with that.there is not much needs doing anyway. They could start by cleaning the gutters out, but I reckon they are a bit too dim to do that, they are too stupid to work out what damage can be caused by blocked gutters. At the end of the day, it will be guys like me that end up doing the work for a pittance, after all the so called experts and developers have had their cut. Let this so called heritage asset fall into the ground as far as I am concerned, it will be a monument to our councils incompetence. |

| I had a thought this morning while having a lovely full breakfast. Why dont all the people that have commented about the BUILE HILL mansion over the last couple of year's on Salford star, people like Bob builder, Rossi JSA(giro), ray(I hate the Tories) and that Darren guy and a few more local people, all go to swinetown town hall planning department and tell em WE want to get this mansion up to scratch and the old depot put into nice lovely gardens full of flowers, back to it's former glory and ask em nicely for £500,000, yep half a million for materials etc for starters. Also tell em, we want paying as well for our work putting this mansion back to scratch. At the end of every working day, we would all go to the hope pub for a few drinks and a bite to eat, all payed in full by Salford council of course, if the MPs can do it, so can we. No more bullshiting and farting around like this centric capital lot, who are all talk and no action. If only it was that simple.. Early happy new year people. |

| ROSSI JSA(giro) @ I went to BUILE HILL high school for 4years and I didn't take no exams. I think I've done alright for myself, I've brought up 4kids, 2 are in full time work, one of my daughter's has just bought her own 3bed house at 23, 2 are in a good high school, I do WORK for a living, I'm not on JSA(giro) jam roll like you. I do think that LONG comments I wrote the other day on the park/mansion is 99% accurate. Those comments took me 1hour at my mother's in law White I was having a nice family dinner.. Ave you ever been to BUILE hill park/mansion's, if not, you are commenting on a subject you know *sod all* about. I pass the park everyday while I'm driving and WORKING and I do go in this park when I'm on bike rides sometimes, its a shithole of a park. Brian Clough said once "he's always right and if the person didn't agree with him, he would talk to the person for 20minutes and then there would both agree he was right" . Also my mother always said "don't call other people who you don't know. I'm off to watch man united now. |

| Darren, learn about grammar and correct punctuation etc, reading your diatribes warps my mind. I try reading your old gobble, and I feel as if I'm in the hands of North Korean agents in Pyongyang, like Pierce Brosnan in that Bond film, Goldeneye. |

| I bet Darrens piece here has got Merry and Dennett thinking. I can smell the wood burning from here. These two love car parks, (they hate cars though). All this talk about people paying good money to park their cars in public parks, well its got endless possibilities. I bet these two are sighing with relief at Steptoe loosing the election.Steptoes election plans for free hospital parking would have been too much for them with their council owned car park on Stott Lane., There again , they have a point, nobody would scream louder than me if I lost an asset bringing in one and a half million quid a year. |

| Where do I start. I've been to TATTON PARK in Cheshire last summer with me family and there charge you a whopping £7 for the car park, also £10 to look inside there lovely beautiful clean BIG
18th century MANSION/GARDENS. There is also loads to do there as well, nice cafe, kids playground, lovely green fields for walk's and this park does loads of events every year, about 3 BIG car shows every year, scarecrow festivals, Christmas shows, weddings events, antique fairs. Open air drive in cinema shows, etc. ... At HAIGH HALL, I go there quite a lot, its 2Ominutes by car from Salford, £3 car park fee. There got a nice cafe, a BIG MASSIVE newish play area, 2 crazy golf courses, nice Fields, a miniature train around the park you can all ride on (£1 I think) a small bar in main building for a quick lager, a go ape high ropes tree top adventure (I been on few times,it's good) and its not expansive, and this park do events all year round. I last went to HAIGH HALL 3weeks ago because there had a Xmas family event on and there had a small music stage in the main square with a local singer singing Xmas songs, it was a good afternoon out. .. IN HEATON PARK, there charge £3 car park, this place also attracts about 10OOs of people on a sat/sun, its got 2play areas, a expansive go ape tree top adventure, animal centre, nice cafe, a boarded up mansion, nice fields, etc. . in Salford BUILE HILL PARK, there is a boarded up mansion for 20 years now, Its got a rundown playarea, a car park that is FREE, (because people don't go there from Miles away), a rundown golf course that nobody uses, a rundown tennis courts, no cafe, no bar, it did have a "pets corner" on weaste lane side, but that closed about 20 years ago, its got dog shit everywhere, broken glass everywhere, rubbish everywhere, this place is a shithole. This shithole of a park needs a *complete makeover* and you can see a nice, clean swanky MEDIA CITY from the park, its 1mile away. Do we have to wait to see if our beloved MAN UTD to win the premier league AGAIN in another 10years to see this park/mansion is sorted out. If this park/ mansion was up to scratch in a few years time, we could charge £3car park and maybe about £5 to go in the mansion and see the nice beautiful lovely gardens at the back. People might come from miles away from Cheshire, Lancashire to view this mansion/park. If Salford council spend million's of £££ on it, there would get that back through car parks, mansion entrance fees etc. Maybe in 10years time, my lovely grandkids might say to me, "grandad, can we all go to BUILE HILL park today, there is lots there to do in that park.". At the moment, it's still a shithole because of Salford council and all these so called company's like Wilkinson's lot and capital and centric's bullshiters lot farting about all the time... Darren has spoken. Quite a lot. Merry Xmas people . |
