Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 12th annual Salford Star Mary Burns Awards, which are given out to honour the most deserving individuals and organisations in the city for their stupid statements, dodgy dealings and iffy activities over the past twelve months.

Salford Council has prided itself on winning the 2018 Digital Leaders Digital Council of the Year Award but Salford Star has its own Real Digital Council of the Year Award for its pathetic My City Salford website. So, ladies and gentlemen, scratch your Googles and give it up for the winner...

SALFORD CITY COUNCIL

Ladies and gentlemen, this year Salford Council won the Digital Leaders Council of the Year Award for its, er, digital prowess. Now get the Salford Star Mary Burns Award for the Real Digital Council of the Year...given out for, er, the opposite of digital prowess.

Yes, Salford City Council splashed £180,000 of Andy Burnham's Greater Manchester Transformation Fund on a website called My City Salford, described as a "21st century digital neighbourhood", and a "groundbreaking citizen-centric project"...

The contract for the site's development was handed to The Landing, a private company owned by Salford Council, and the result was...underwhelming in the extreme.

The site, half of which is out of date and derelict, was launched in October 2017 and a year later, in September 2018, had just 1,738 unique users, or an average of just 58 people per day looking at it, a Salford Star Freedom of Information request revealed (see here).

Together with another website called My City Health, developed at a cost of £118,000 of public money, almost £300,000 has been splashed on websites that have not exactly set the digital world on fire.

So, ladies and gentlemen, ask 'What the 'ell were the judges of the Digital Leaders Council of the Year Award thinking?', and slow handclap as the social media flop wilts in the winter of its own content for the winner of the Salford Star Mary Burns Award for the Real Digital Council of the Year..
