SWEARING SALFORD COUNCILLOR REFERRED TO CHIEF WHIP AS BUDGET PASSED AND CARE WORKERS SEE PAY RISE

Star date: 26th February 2020

CARE WORKERS TO GET PAY RISE FROM OCTOBER...AS NO CUTS BUDGET PASSED

At today's meeting of Salford City Council, a no cuts budget was passed, the Mayor announced a pay rise for care workers in October...and Conservative councillor Karen Garrido announced that she would not sit in a room with swearing Labour Councillor Mike McCusker if he wasn't 'sorted out'. In response the Mayor said that he had been referred to the Labour Party's Chief Whip.

Today began with a lobby of Salford City Council by care workers seeking the Real Living Wage of £9.30 an hour, in a city that is supposed to pride itself on being a Real Living Wage City.

Inside the chamber, Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett, announced that they would get a pay rise to £9 an hour from October, as the Council didn't have the £4million it would cost to implement the full rise. Although he didn't specify which care workers would be eligible.*

The care workers will get the national minimum wage of £8.72 per hour from April this year, with the further Salford rise of 28p per hour to follow... "More needs to be done but we are making progress" said the Mayor.

Meanwhile, a Tory Party amendment to reduce Council Tax rise to 1.99% rather than 3.99% proposed in the budget was defeated; while the Mayor's no cuts budget in this Mayoral election year was passed, with more money for street cleaning, Buile Hill Mansion and a £1.2million saving from bringing Urban Vision back in-house.**

The Mayor said the latter was a "great achievement" – but it was the Labour Council that outsourced it in the first place. A figure of £20.2million cuts needed over the next three years was also mentioned by the Mayor.

The usual political grandstanding from both sides of the chamber drew out the budget meeting for over three hours, and it only came to life when Conservative Councillor, Karen Garrido, spoke lividly about Labour Councillor Mike McCusker and his swearing, offensive comments on social media this week...***

"I'm only here today because it is budget and it is the most important day of the year in the Council" she said "I wouldn't be here; I wouldn't be sat in a room with a person who is here who calls me and like minded people like me 'Tory pigs'...I'm sorry I have to say it...

"We have to stop this name calling, this obsessing" she added "We have to stop it, you have to stop it...Never in my life...I've had arguments with people in this Council...but I have never, ever, ever, stooped to that level, that low, and I will not sit in a room if you don't sort it out. I will not come to any meeting that that person is sat in...."

Later, City Mayor, Paul Dennett, responded..."I agree with you. I think all of us have to be careful about our language...This city Council has a social media policy and off the back of complaints recently made to me, I have reaffirmed the importance of that policy to every single member of the Labour group. And I know the example you specifically talked about and that's also been referred to our Chief Whip...."

After referring to Prime Minister Boris Johnson's outbursts over 'letterboxes', 'water melons' and 'bum boys', the Mayor added that "We will do our utmost, I've already acted on many of the points you've made. I want to reassure you of that..."

Throughout the Council meeting Councillor McCusker sat silent...

A great piece of anti tory bile there from wrote at 7.28. Thing is our council chamber is not the house of Lords. Our members don't get paid any more for attending than not .They get paid the same for sitting on their arses at home. This is why many labour members do just that.

Felse has been advising Tory Party for years. How else could they know inside ways to beat Labour in heartlands. He worked as stability advisor to Blair’s Ministers. Still going all out to stop the leftie tendancy. Wrote has uncovered this political Scarlet Pimpernel but how long has he been advising CCHQ behind the scenes. Is Felsey the biggest Tory Party oink or nastiest scum bag threat to Labour or both.

Have to agree with White. I met Mr Felse last week on the train back from London. He had been presenting his 5 point plan at CCHQ Conservative Campaign HQ in Westminster. Looks like the Tories are going all out to win Northern seats. Salford set to save millions of quids plus an eco package. Greater Manchester even bigger package. Burnham and Dennett about to be shown the door cos I think Mr Felse intends to remove Labour. He is an interesting creature if you ever get to sit next to him on the train. Fascinating man he laughed at all the insults from Labour it was refreshing to enjoy the train journey.

We should all get behind Felsey and support him in his endeavours to be Mayor of Salford, or even of Greater Manchester.. Who could possibly be better equipped to take on such posts; after all he has experience of, and has expounded the views of, every shade of opinion from every political party. He knows it all. What matter that at present he is a Conservative, by next year he will have flitted to some other group. He might even form the Felsey Party in his bid to rule the world.

I am sorry to read Councillor Garrido is I upset by the comments Karen is a wonderful Lady who I enjoyed listening to in the 2012 Mayoral election where we stood. I have admiration for her great commitment. Labour must stop their insults. I am sick to my back teeth of their tactics. Now I am back living full time in Salford this only makes me more determined to kick out Labour. I once voted Labour now I am a Conservative Party full member - what does that tell us. Labour Councillors should feel absolutely ashamed.

Shooting from the hip with this one....... There is a bit of a difference between being called a " bum boy " or a " letter box " as against being called a tory pig .............. Surely all Tories are barstewards , robbing fcukers , just general parasitic TW*TS ,with no feelings for anyone other than their own friends back in the communal pigsties that go by the name of Con clubs

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
