SALFORD LABOUR COUNCILLOR TO BE INVESTIGATED OVER ‘TORY PIGS’ COMMENT

Star date: 21st February 2020

TORIES PUT IN FORMAL COMPLAINT AGAINST COUNCILLOR MIKE MCCUSKER

Senior Labour Councillor, Mike McCusker, is in hot water over a 'Tory pigs' comment posted on social media. Salford Conservative Leader Councillor Les Turner told the Salford Star that the party has put in a formal complaint...

"In my 14 years on the Council I can't remember any Labour councillor addressing the opposition in that way, certainly not on a public forum" he said.

Full details here...

The Salford Conservatives have put in a formal complaint against senior Labour Councillor, Mike McCusker, who is also Executive Support for Planning, Housing and Sustainable Development, following a comment on Facebook about 'Tory pigs'

The comment was posted in response to a post about the Tories advertising for candidates to stand in the upcoming local election...

"Not enough Tory pigs this year" McCusker wrote "They appear to be begging any Tory pig on the farm to help out..."

The comment was removed but the Salford Conservatives are taking it further and have made a formal complaint to the Council's Monitoring Officer, Miranda Carruthers Watt...

"It's not the language you would expect from a senior member of the Labour Party" Conservative Leader, Councillor Les Turner tells the Salford Star "In my 14 years on the Council I can't remember any Labour councillor addressing the opposition in that way, certainly not on a public forum, although they might do it behind your back!

"My members are incredibly upset about it, especially the Jewish ones; is that how they think of any of our supporters?" he adds "It's left a very nasty taste for Wednesday's [budget] meeting, having to share a forum with someone who thinks like that and actually says it. I don't want to see that sort of language..."

The Salford Star has contacted Councillor McCusker for a comment and he hasn't yet responded - although in his defence, the comment was made in the context of someone posting 'In Salford a pig sporting a red rose will be elected'...

In the screenshot the person's name who Councillor McCusker was addressing has been removed.

I think councillor MCusker's remarks were alluding to George Orwell's " Animal Farm" and the fact that the pigs take over the running of it. It seems most commentators on here have taken it literally as has the Tory councillor. Any shade of subltety especially on social media, ( I'm afraid I'll have to include this page Steve) is invariably lost. Of course I could be wrong !

There are 2 things I have tried to understand but cannot. One is American football, the other,Irish politics. For Cllr Mccusker to comment on Irish political things, it indicates to me he must have some sort of understanding of them. I would have thought such intellectual reasoning would have been way beyond our Labour councillors, most of them do dot have a clue about British political reasoning beyond having a pathological in bred hatred of the Torys.

I am a Tory offended by the remark. Time we put a stop to this sort of thing. On Wednesday the whole Tory group should walk out in protest. Let the word be Salford will not tolerate this sort of language any more. If we all stay quiet then things can never get better. Stop insults and that also goes for certain others on here.

It is hard to understand why someone would call others pigs. It has long been seen an insult by the Jewish community. Possibly made without thinking. It has made others Incredibly upset says the Conservative leader especially their Jewish supporters. Can a simple sorry make amends. Offending your opponents seems rife these days and as the election gains pace may get worse. It takes a hard person to get into today’s political arena. Does the use of insults in politics reflect the reality of society gone wrong?

When I met Felsey years ago, I was told by him that he was a former Yogsheer miner. Down them yogsheer pits, I imagine They used to refer to members of the conservative party in far worse terms than calling them pigs. The Agecroft miners used to.

Come on, we have all had it bad, I've had it bad quite a few times in life, that's life. Life has its ups and downs. I've had the odd bully when I was younger, I got most of em back, apart from one, (his time Will come). You have to get over it, you move on. So FELSE, we DEMAND you get back in your apartment on st Lawrence quays and we all URGE to shut up. That's it.

Awful to see Felse degraded with even more abusive words. The use of calling Michael trash is another all time low from Salford Labour camp no doubt they feel justified because Labour lost the big election. Use the mirror reflection if you want to see trash. It is good to see Felse standing up to the sewer brigade they will be the final self destruction of the Labour Party thank God.

Along my life line of decency I have suffered homophobic attacks, hate and physical violence in my long years fight for equality but life has taught me to expect bullies. Yet it gets me angry when a person of authority appears to insult my heritage. I demand a full apology for what appears may be an insult to my Jewish pride. I demand this be the last time we have any insult from a Labour Councillor. They need to realise throwing insult fosters a gutter plague of hate. I demand any Councillor shown to have used a distasteful comment be expelled from their Party and I demand the person resigns. That is the only acceptable form of apology.

Oh Dear ,Cllr Mccuskers in big trouble. No doubt he will be summoned to Miss Mandy's office for a severe telling off and told to stand in the corner wearing a dunces hat for half an hour. On a more serious note it is good to see our elected politicians taking an interest in local journalism. Could our editor perhaps in the kindness of his heart, offer these people a little bit of column space each week so we can see what they want to say to us.I remember years ago in the old Salford reporter, Old mother Garido used to write a column. I never read it though.

Councillor MCusker need not defend himself tories are not like pigs pigs are warm clean and honest .the quote i would use to describe tories is the one Anueurin Bevan used when the labour party introduced the NHS in 1948 the tories are lower than vermin because of course the tories never wanted an NHS or a welfare state .and after seeing and living through the tory attempts ongoing to dismantle the welfare state and the destruction of the NHS and bearing personal witness to the thatcher regimes assault on the coal miners and coal mining communities by police thugs the judiciary and many media/ press tv /etc supporting tory state thuggery and oppression of cival liberties which one day will be revealed when the true history of the miners strike is written TORIES LOWER THAN VERMIN PAUL KELLY STRIKING MINER 1984 .85

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
