Wizard of Oz Scarecrow Award

Hazel Blears
This former Salford MP is no stranger to the Salford Star Mary Burns Awards, cantering off with no less than the Bum of the Year Award for toilet roll luxury, the Palm D'or Award for friendship with Bahrain, the Getting Money To Where It's Most Needed Award, the Nice Work If You Can Get It Award, the Error of Judgement Award for that expenses episode and, way back, the Special Award For Being Hazel Blears.
Hazels' incredible seventh Salford Star Mary Burns gong, the Wizard of Oz Scarecrow Award, is in honour of her getting an honorary doctorate from the University of Salford this year, when she said "If you want something enough and work hard for it then you can achieve whatever you want..."
Hell yes, Hazel!...who gets £85,000 for a few days work a month at the Co-Op and Social Investment Business, while she sold up and left Salford a few years ago, apparently with a house in the South of France and one in Cumbria.
Those houses must have huge mantelpieces to display all these Salford Star Awards, as well as all the other envelopes and gongs. The University's honorary doctorate was for Hazel's work fighting against dementia, after her mum developed the condition.
But with loads of families in Salford caring for someone affected by dementia shouldn't we all just form a queue to get our honorary directorates from the University?
Unfortunately for us, Hazel is special. Hazel gets away with fiddling expenses, jumping into well paid a-few-days-a-month jobs, hobnobbing with brutal regimes and maybe having a lovely house in the South of France done up by a friendly local developer, although we couldn't possibly confirm the truth of this.
So ladies and gentlemen, turn 360 degrees, stroke your Dorothys, click your heels and chant 'There's no place like home...oh yes there bloody is!' for the winner of the Salford Star Mary Burns Wizard of Oz Scarecrow Award
Hazel Bleeeeeeears!!!
