City West Housing Trust has confirmed that cladding on seven blocks it owns and manages in Eccles have failed the Government's fire safety test.
The blocks are Ewood House, Cremer House, Kemball House, Craunton House, College Croft, Charter House and Southway.
"We now have the results of this test from the samples of Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) we submitted for seven high rise blocks in Eccles, which has found that that whilst the material met all current building regulations, it has not met the latest DCLG test criteria" states City West "This applies only to cladding to one elevation.
"Whilst our fire safety arrangements are very robust, as customer safety is of paramount importance, we have taken the decision to remove the cladding in question on these seven blocks, as a precautionary measure" the company adds "We have taken immediate action to arrange the removal of the affected cladding and the programme of work will begin imminently."
Test results have not yet been returned for the other five City West blocks at Barton Village - Engels, Enfield, Cawdor, Wade and Mees.
"We have advised customers of the plan to remove the cladding and are providing assurance" City West states "In the meantime we are undertaking additional inspections and checks in relation to fire safety, inside and outside the blocks.
"We will also continue with the provision of a 24 hour a day presence walking the central Eccles blocks to assist in the unlikely event there is a fire, in order to provide customers with additional assurance" the company adds "Anyone with any concerns should email hello@citywest.org.uk or call 0300 123 55 22."
