CLADDING TO BE REMOVED FROM NINE SALFORD PENDLETON TOWER BLOCKS

Star date: 23rd June 2017 SALFORD COUNCIL TO REMOVE ALL ACM CLADDING This afternoon, Pendleton Together has sent a letter to residents informing them that Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) cladding on nine Pendleton Together tower blocks, including Spruce Court, Whitebeam Court and Thorn Court is to be removed, at the behest of Salford City Council. Following the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy, Salford City Council has this afternoon made the decision, before the test results come back from the Government, to remove cladding on all nine Pendleton Together tower blocks. A letter to residents this afternoon from Pendleton Together states: "Irrespective of the test results, Salford City Council have made the decision to remove the Aluminium Composite Material (ACM)cladding from all of the nine high rise blocks. Both the Council and Pendleton Together take the safety of our residents very seriously which has prompted these precautionary steps to be taken. "The process of removing and replacing the cladding will be coordinated as quickly and efficiently as possible" the letter adds "This may take some time and will be carried out with minimal disruption to residents." Pendleton Together is to hold a number of drop-in sessions next week to answer residents' questions. Meanwhile, Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett is holding a press conference this afternoon to which the Salford Star, as the only press based in Salford, was not invited. | I do know for a fact there was a problem with heating and condensation in the salford flats, my husband was a Block Super for many years and I had to name and shame the Council at the time to get work done on our flat, which beggers belief as my husband worked for the council at the time. They were terrible, so I can understand they had to do something. But what they did can only be described as DISCRACEFUL. I shudder when I think, if we lived on them flats now, how I could be putting my grandchildren at risk. But there again, if the council could do a job cheaply, they would, and back handers would go hand in hand with the suppliers and whoever they employed. You would never be able to get to the bottom of this, they will just pass the buck like they have always done!!!!! |

| I think many of the companies which undertook the work putting up the cladding , used subcontractors who used suncontractors so its hard to see if the job was done well and properly using the correct materials and followed ful health and safety requirements - this is what was said today on the radio, regarding the flats in London. i'm sure Salford will be the sAme .
Do we know about other high rise with partial cladding - run by other housing groups?

| When the plans to modonise the tower blocks was on the cards, surley the plans would have to go to the planning department. And on the plans it should state what material would be used. In turn has there not been any tests done on this cladding to see if it's fireproof,if it keeps the heat in, which i would think was the reason in the first place for putting it on the flats. Total shambles. I was going to say putting lives in danger,but sadly we all know lives have been lost |

God how many times have we read this. openness and transparency seems to fit at the bottom of the Dennetts CV, I think it's in the job description. Question is our planning process fit for purpose along with building regulations or is it ok only for the paupers domiciles? question no one is asking who the hell foots the bill for ripping this crematorium covers down? |

| It is worrying that the press conference to be held on the removal of these panels is not to include Salford's only Community paper. Whatever conflict the Council has with the Star, it should recognise that this paper is read by residents of Salford and if it has nothing to hid then it need to be transparent and open up to this newspaper. The Star is not like the Mail or the Express which tells lies and exaggerates. Word of advice; if you communicate relationships will improve. The Star could be a useful resource for you and a communication tool. |

| This reeks of a cover up...I bet they already know the cladding is the flammable sort. Why remove it otherwise? Meanwhile, tenants are left in the dark about whether or not they could be burned or suffocated to death. |
