After seeing off three former attempts to buy Swinton Park Golf and Country Club for the development of houses, a fourth company, Himor Property Ltd, which has the same directors as Wainhomes, is apparently in negotiation to buy shares for an initial £3.2million, with further payments in the unlikely future where planning permission for houses is obtained.
The Save Swinton Park Committee has written to campaigners trying to rescue the Club, informing them that the main shareholder is selling his shares..."In addition, as the majority shareholder he is using a Drag Along Clause in the Articles of Association, to force all the other shareholders to do the same" they write.
Meanwhile, Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett, has also written to the company (as he did with the last bid from YourHousing*), warning it off any potential purchase for housing.
He writes that following an independent audit of the Club, the Council believes there is a case for it to remain as a viable golf course and, as such, will seek to retain its use in the upcoming Local Plan and would 'defend' any attempt to overturn its designation as an open green recreation space.
He also made the company aware of a bid from Club members and the community of £1.5million, and the further designation of the site as an asset of community value, meaning the campaigners will get "first opportunity to put forward a proposal".
The letter ends by "forewarning" the company that "any development on this site would likely be the subject of bitter local resentment and opposition and would most certainly attract significant media and press interest..."
