After this morning's gas explosion at City West Housing properties in Irlam, nine adults and five children were taken to Salford Royal hospital. An 82 year old woman remains in a critical condition at Wythenshawe Hospital with 30% burns.
On the advice of Greater Manchester Police and the Fire Service, 200 families are being kept away from their homes tonight. A statement from City West Housing was issued at 7pm…
"As soon as the cordon is lifted, all homes that can be repaired and made safe will be done so as a matter of urgency to make sure that as many residents as possible can return home. Residents whose homes cannot be repaired quickly will be provided with alternative accommodation in the short-term with a view to being re-homed as soon as possible.
Tim Doyle, Chief Executive of City West Housing Trust said "At this point our priority is to assist those affected by the explosion."
Until we know the full details of the stage of the improvement works in the affected property we cannot confirm any details around the work carried out yesterday. A full investigation is underway."
