SALFORD TUC SLATES LABOUR PARTY OVER REBECCA LONG BAILEY SACKING
|
|
Star date: 28th June 2020 SALFORD TUC CONDEMNS 'CYNICAL' STARMER FOR 'DISGRACEFUL' LONG BAILEY SACKING Salford TUC and the Salford Retired Trade Unionists have pledged support for Salford and Eccles MP Rebecca Long Bailey who was sacked from the Shadow Cabinet by Labour Party Leader Keir Starmer this week. The joint statement argues that the Shadow Education Secretary was "disgracefully sacked" as part of a "cynical bid by Starmer...to get rid of a shadow minister..." Full details here...

Salford TUC and the Salford Retired Trade Unionists have slated Labour Party Leader, Keir Starmer, for sacking Shadow Education Secretary and Salford and Eccles MP, Rebecca Long Bailey, from his Shadow Cabinet. The Salford trade unionists argue that the sacking of Long Bailey, who failed in her bid to become Labour Party Leader, was part of a "false narrative" that seeks to "accuse all critics of the Israeli State and its practices of anti-Semitism". They add that the Starmer actions were "a total over reaction by the present Leader, and is an attack on the whole left of the Labour Party" and "a cynical bid by Starmer, the current LP Leader, to get rid of a shadow minister..." The full text of the statement reads... "Salford TUC and the Salford Retired Trade Unionists pledge full support for Becky Long Bailey, MP and shadow Education Secretary, who was disgracefully sacked by the current Leader of the Labour Party. "The reason given was that Becky had 'tweeted' a link to a far reaching article on the Independent website with actor and a constituent Maxine Peake, which mentioned the Israeli training of USA Police. The sacking of Becky is without respect and is a total over reaction by the present Leader, and is an attack on the whole left of the Labour Party. "It is also a craven submission to those who accuse all critics of the Israeli state and its practices of anti-Semitism. The false narrative, trumpeted by almost all the capitalist UK media for years, was aimed at derailing Jeremy Corbyn's leadership, that the LP was a hotbed of vile anti-Semitic views has already done great damage. "Every state, including Israel should be criticised when it is wrong, and the treatment of Palestinians by the Israeli state has been inhuman and wrong. Israeli forces do train US polices officers, including Minneapolis. Amnesty International reported in 2016 that officers from numerous US states were sent for training in Israel and occupied Palestine, which of course puts police and other US law enforcement staff in the hands of military, security and police systems that have racked up documented human rights violations for years. "Ms Bailey was the only senior ally of Jeremy Corbyn to retain a shadow cabinet position. She had done well as Education Secretary, speaking up for teachers their unions and supporting their concerns over the premature reopening of schools, demanded by the Tory Government, which could have accelerated a deadly second wave of Corona -19. "The excuses to sack Ms Bailey look like a cynical bid by Starmer, the current LP Leader, to get rid of a shadow minister whose refusal to attack teaching unions and copy his and the Tory Governments irresponsible push for schools to fully reopen more quickly, showed up the weakness of his opposition to a Tory Government whose mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic has cost thousands of lives. Salford TUC stands by our MP and comrade and calls for unity in action..." The statement is signed by Paul Kelly President of Salford TUC and Alec McFadden Press Officer Salford TUC. Meanwhile, the Salford Star has received another 'open letter' from Salford resident Pat Kelly... "I am writing to express my grave concerns for the future of the Labour Party. After reading the article here https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/opendemocracyuk/were-labours-antisemitism-failures-really-corbyns-fault/ I was reminded of something I used to hear my father and grandfather say many years ago 'the Labour party is full of traitors'. It seems things haven't changed! "What is so very clear and concerning here is that the actions of right wing party members in 2017 scuppered Labour's chances of winning the election. This has led directly to the deaths of upwards of 40,000 people, for, had Labour won in 2017, we would have had three years in which to increase funding to the NHS thereby mitigating the effects of years of Tory cuts and under funding. "The warnings first given in 2016, that the country was not properly prepared for a pandemic, would have been heeded. We would have had adequate supplies of PPE and gone into lockdown earlier, as opposed to following a policy of herd immunity. We could have benefited from the introduction of a universal income to aid the recovery and introduced free internet which would have helped schoolchildren during the closures. "The traitors who aided in the defamation of Jeremy Corbyn are as much to blame for the shameful death count from COVID-19 as are the Tories, who are after all only doing what we would expect of them. Having been forced into another election in 2019, the vitriolic campaign against Corbyn continued, again aided and abetted by right wingers in the party. It was sickening to see Labour MPs actually pleased at the result! A result which cost Corbyn his leadership but has cost the country so much more. "The Government's disastrous handling of the pandemic ought to see them being hammered in the polls, yet they are still ahead. The answer lies not in allowing the right wing of Labour to take complete control by sacking left wing members of the shadow cabinet on spurious charges, but in creating a broad movement of the left. "As a resident of Salford since birth I am proud to have Rebecca Long Bailey as the city's representative in parliament and to see her carrying on in the tradition of past MP Frank Allaun. One can only imagine what his thoughts would be on this shameful chapter..."

| @anonymous. Was the quote aimed at you? If the cap fits..,
Obviously STILL haven’t read the leaked report. Not even able to spell my name correctly - despite it being clearly printed before you. Not sure I even owe you the courtesy of a reply.
And NO I’ve never been a member of the Labour Party and, even when Corbyn was leader, never considered joining. Too few socialists and too many career politicians for my liking; as evidenced by the UNREAD leaked report.
Glad you’re ‘done here’ - the ennui was becoming unbearable xxx |

| @Ann Shaw, And now come the insults, with a quote from Mark Twain, no less. You obviously are, or were, a Labour supporter, and you’ve done to me what’s happened to me and others so many times before, dismisses and starts throwing insults. You just proved my point. You’re part of the reason Labour failed, and no doubt will continue to discount and insult others. You, along with momentum and other Labour supporters, with your constant attacks and language “Parasites” and “traitors” (what’s with that? You sound like the extreme right Brexiteers. But it’s ok when you do it, isn’t it?), are partly to blame for the Tory government. So please, throw the insults, accuse me of being whatever you like, you’re only hurting your own cause. I’m done here. |

| @Pat Kelly, You talk as if I had expectations things would go that way. I knew it was highly unlikely to happen as the 2 main parties don’t want to decentralise, especially the Tories who are, ideologically, supposed to favour that. I did it out of hope things would change, but I knew when voting it was unlikely to happen and that the Tories would make a mess of it and go back on things they said and that Labour and the Libs would try to frustrate it. It all came to be and just confirmed what I thought, political change will only happen at the pace the powers that be allow it to, and all parties pander to those powers. I have zero faith in our political system or democracy. So in short, it was a choice of the statue quo or a tiny chance for possible change. My pessimism was correct. I’ll never vote again, unless it’s to abolish the whole, damn rotten system! Which is about as likely as Boris the cabbage winning sexist man alive. |

| @ Ann Shaw, Pat Kelly's "worry" about the party would indicate she is at least a supporter. I also never said the Labour Party didn't have people on the inside working against each other, it's blindly obvious the Party's been in a state of civil war for a while now. What I said was blaming "traitors" and "parasites" (and the media, which I admit didn't help) for the failure to win elections, is to ignore what a lot of mainstream MP's and Labour supporters have said. The breath-taking "They didn't know what they were voting for" and "They were duped!" regarding Brexit was a massive insult to their intelligence (which is non-existent according to some Labour MPs). There's a lot more to the losses than political infighting, and everyone keeps scratching their heads wondering why and proceed to carry on insulting their core voter base. Corbyn was a life-long euro-sceptic until his party told him he wasn't. Absolute spinelessness. And Corbyn effectively called everyone far right in his European Local Election broadcast of 2019. He said "The far right is on the rise, but you can stop them today. They want to blame minorities for all of our problems and paint Europe out to be the enemy." all this done to a backdrop of videos of actual far right groups and UKIP and Nigel Farage. While UKIP has completely collapsed in to a BNP-Lite party, Nigel Farage is not far-right, in the traditional sense (please don't accuse me of being his cheerleader as I think he's an odious little twat). A lot of people voted for the Brexit party and UKIP in the past, as no one would take their worries about immigration and other problems seriously (immigration's a good thing when it's controlled). For instance, I've been accused of being racist for suggesting that housing in Salford should go to those born here first, no matter what colour of religion you are. If you're born in Salford, you get first choice. I'd also exclude people from outside Salford, other areas of the UK, EU and the rest of the world. Regardless of who you blame for the housing shortage, locals should come first for what housing stock we do have. Currently SCC operate a "most in need/fairness" system which would put anyone living in a bedsit or hostel, who've been here for 6 months (regardless of where they've come from), ahead of local people. Yet I'm a racist for this according to Labour supporters. I'm a "racist", "Moron" for voting leave as I thought a step away from a large bureaucratic, centralising, neoliberal organisation with a democracy and accountability deficit was a step in the right direction (I favour decentralisation and returning of powers to the local level, that includes more independence from Westminster). That's just my reasoning in short, expanding on it would take up too much time and space. Basically Labour MP's and their followers have been berating and insulting their core voter base for years and driven them right into the arms of that Blonde Cabbage Johnson, who isn't even fit to be a toilet cleaner in Westminster let alone the PM. As for Blair he's a war criminal and should be treated as such, him and George Bush. |

| Responding to the attack by ‘Anonymous’ on Pat Kelly: In the first instance there is no evidence that Ms Kelly is even a member of the Labour Party, indeed her opening comment would tend to suggest that she, like me, is appalled at the egregious conduct of the Labour leadership. After my more than 60 years of experience of British politics I’m convinced that she too is appalled by the failure of the Labour Party, once more, to do the right thing.
Did ‘Anonymous’ even read the linked article Ms Kelly referenced? Did he/she even read the letter in its entirety? If one reads the report one can see that there was a concerted effort by traitors, yes TRAITORS, to the Labour movement who, in concert with the multi-millionaire owned media, did everything possible to undermine Corbyn’s campaigns. The main crux of the report was that it was Corbyn’s critics WITHIN the party who constantly obstructed his attempts to root out racism and anti-semitism while complaining to the media that Corbyn was weak on anti-semitism. Why, in the name of any kind of logic or reason, do you think the tax dodgers, the voice of the ruling class, the parasites who make their wealth off the backs of the working class, hurled so much vitriol at Corbyn and his shadow cabinet? Do you think it was because he and his supporters were anti-semites? You poor misled anonymous fool.
And when did Corbyn brand “anyone who voted to leave the EU as the ‘far right”? As a firm ‘remainer’ I have to admit to grave doubts as to his personal commitment to a remain stance.
The second major claim in the article is that these officials used their paid party positions to pursue a factional agenda hostile to the leadership. Democracy? My arse. The points made by Ms Kelly are wholly valid.
And, while we’re on the subject of “lumbering us with the Tories for fuck knows how long”, I note that today Sir Keir has forced through a change in voting designed to silence the voices of true socialists. Tony Blair Mark II? I can't forgive this career politician for trying to hoodwink the voters into voting for socialism in this manner any more than I can forgive mass murderer Tony Blair in his quest for power. As my Mam, a Salford school cleaner for 30+ years, used to say; “If a thing’s wrong in principle, it’s wrong in practice.” Wise words Mam. |

| Timmy you mean to tell us you have not seen the MI5 leaked report. Felsey funded the virus from his wealth to delay mayor elections for a year knowing public opinion would ditch the main parties by 2021. MI5 know he then wins causing investigations into council losses that clears the path for destroying Labour in northern heartlands. You could not fabricate a more scrupulous plot. Appears the BBC want Tennant to play the star role in the drama film version. |

| So Pat Kelly’s saying it’s was the ‘traitors’ that cost the party the last 2 elections? So it had nothing to do with Corbyn branding anyone who voted to leave the EU as the ‘far right’? Or the many momentum supporters Insulting and threatening anyone who had an opposing view or questioning Labour policy? You alienated and insulted your own voter base, then blame ‘traitors’ in your own party, rather than accepting the responsibility. Thank you, so much, for lumbering us with the Tories for fuck knows how long! ‘Party of the people my my arse! |

| Even as a critic of the Labour party on many occasions, this civil war among them that is about to erupt saddens me.This has been brewing for some time, and this is the event that will set it down.Although she is the darling of the lefties, Miss Beccy, to her credit, has tried to diffuse the situation since her sacking, by saying she didn't endorse that bit about the Israeli forces training American coppers in Maxine Peakes letter. I thought it unusual at the time for a smart arse like Maxine Peake to get her facts wrong, especially about something like this. Now that it appears that Ms Peake was in fact telling the truth, Miss Beccy is in the position of having to say whether she supports MsPeake in her full statement or not. Either way, she is going to get stick for this, and she cannot just shy away from it all. If she does not stand fully behind her mate Maxine, that will undermine her standing with the lefties. There again, all of this could be just a left wing plot to keep our right wing Tory government in power for the next 20 years.Another 20 years of Boris and his crew will no doubt bring total revolution to our streets and complete insurrection. Perhaps thats what they want. |
