Today, the Office for National Statistics, or ONS, has published new figures for deaths and causes of deaths in local authority areas.
The tables show that of sad COVID-19 deaths that were registered up until 24th April in Salford, 77 happened in care homes, 128 in hospital and seven occurred at home. The care home deaths equate to 36.3% of all coronavirus deaths in the city.
The total number of deaths from all causes in Salford care homes, up until 24th April, was 246, meaning COVID-19 deaths totalled 23.8%, or almost a quarter, of all care home deaths.
The tables also show statistics for deaths up to 24th April that were registered up to 2nd May and this shows eight COVID-19 deaths at home, 131 hospital deaths and 81 care homes deaths.
For COVID-19 deaths occurring between 1st March and 17th April, Salford has the highest death rate outside Greater London, with 93 deaths per 100,000 people, compared to Manchester which has 60 deaths per 100,000 people and Oldham which has 66 deaths per 100,000 people. The next highest is Liverpool with 82 deaths per 100,000 people.
