So, we're in Yum Yum's on Littleton Road and Amber Calise and her dad, Colin, are talking about the demise of her former band, Revival, featured in the Salford Star just over a year ago playing the Cavern in Liverpool when she was still 15...
"We all had different ways of thinking about our music so we parted and went our separate ways" says Amber of the band whose youngest member, her sister, was 12 "Since then I've started writing my own stuff and doing my own thing, and developing myself as a musician rather than being in a band."
Amber's first self-penned release is called Memories and it's a song that highlights her crystal clear voice, uncomplicated, drift-along lyrics and ear for a bloody good tune. Written and mainly played on acoustic guitar, she says "It's easy listening like Taylor Swift's really old songs...like Ed Sheeran..."
...And Colin underlines... "Ed Sheeran in a skirt..." They laugh but suppose someone's got to do it...There is a vacuum there, after all...
Memories has been promoted on Salford City Radio and around social media platforms, while Amber has played live at Malt Dog in Monton, Malaga Drift in Eccles, Lightoaks Park festival last year and other events. She's also due to play at Swinton Rugby Club in March. Dad and daughter are just hoping someone with a bit of clout notices, even though she is not old enough to play some open mic nights and venues.
"The plan is to keep writing songs and get more stuff recorded, and see where it leads" says Amber...
