Aha! Rebecca Long-Bailey wants to rule the party with an 'iron fist' screamed yesterday's Telegraph! Rebecca Long Bailey 'trades prolier-than-thou porkies', squealed The Times! Rebecca Long Bailey 'appoints a STALINIST to run her Labour leadership campaign' slurped the Mail! With the General Election barely more than a week old the claws are out for the Salford MP who really hasn't put a foot wrong as far as Salford is concerned. She has supported campaigns against austerity in the city, against academies, against the threatened closure of the five outstanding council run nurseries, and for the dangerous cladding to be sorted out in Pendleton. At the General Election, Rebecca Long-Bailey was reinstated as the MP for Salford and Eccles with a huge 16,327 majority, which would seem to suggest that Salford people agreed she was doing a good job for the city. On a professional level of standing up for constituents and against toxic Tory Party policies Rebecca Long-Bailey cannot really be faulted – but the media's straw grasping has made headlines. On Saturday, for instance, the search 'Alex Halligan Rebecca Long Bailey' was actually trending on Google. The crime, according to the Mail? Halligan "was pictured in 2017 wearing a badge with the words 'Good night Trotskyite' and an image of a man wielding an ice pick at another man, a reference to the assassination of Leon Trotsky". As we all know, the Mail is a massive friend of all Trotskyites! If Halligan - who works in Rebecca Long-Bailey's office and is helping her leadership campaign according to reports - would have been wearing a pro-Trotsky badge the Mail would have been pointing the finger at him for that too. Now, Alex Halligan is no friend of the Salford Star...well not since he leaked a tape of a secret Hazel Blears expenses meeting to us back in the day but then went on to back the new Ian Stewart/Paul Dennett-led regime in the city...but him wearing a stupid badge two years ago is hardly front page news. And if the media wants to have a go at 'Stalinists' in the Labour Party, it needs to look no further than almost every single councillor in the city who has helped block transparency and uses full Council meetings as showboating political orgies rather than any real attempt at accountability. The Telegraph actually used a Salford Star interview with Rebecca Long-Bailey from 2105, before she'd even been elected MP, to darken her character, running the headline yesterday "Labour leadership frontrunner Rebecca Long-Bailey said she would like to rule party with 'iron fist'''... This was taken from a very long interview we did, funnily enough, discussing accountability and the lack of openness from Salford City Council which, at the time hadn't spoken to the Star for two years (make that six years now!)... Salford Star: There is no accountability in this city....
RLB: [silence] SS: So what are your views on that?
RLB: It's up to councillors and politicians to be accountable... SS: But they're not...
RLB: And to liaise with the press...
SS: But they're not...And they're your party...
RLB: I can't rule it with an iron fist, much as I'd love to... It was about forcing the buggers in Salford to speak to the press, not ruling the national Labour Party in some weird Stalinist way! Unfortunately, since that interview and others where Rebecca Long-Bailey promised to speak to the Star and the press, she's fallen in line with the Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett and other Labour Party councillors in blanking this publication – despite almost no criticism since she was first elected. If anything that shows a weak character, not an 'iron fist'! And then there's those 'prolier-than-thou porkies' revealed in The Times, which quoted the Salford MP stating that her dad 'worked on the Salford docks and I grew up watching him worrying when round after round of redundancies were inflicted on the docks.' The Times pointed out that Rebecca would have been two years old when the docks shut in 1982, and therefore couldn't have 'grown up worrying about redundancies'. As she told the Salford Star back in 2015, "My dad worked for Shell unloading oil from the tankers". This, the Star understands, would have been at Carrington, which was functioning after the docks closed. Not strictly Salford Docks but just down the road. Whatevs. The point is that the mainstream media is desperate to slur anyone connected to Jeremy Corbyn and his conviction left wing politics, especially someone who has a chance of continuing his legacy. The witch hunt and smears that permeated the General Election have not gone away – and won't, while the agenda of the mainstream media remains to stop any redistribution of wealth, and anyone who might want to attempt it. Let's be straight here. The Salford Labour Party and its MPs are no friend of the fiercely independent Salford Star. Indeed this publication has been slurred and accused of everything by those Labour Party apparatchiks who no doubt are currently squealing 'unfair' at the mainstream media*. But Rebecca Long-Bailey stands somewhere in the middle. Is it a crime to want to lead the Labour Party to fight for a more fair and equal society? Those with the most to lose certainly seem to think so.

| I was watching “The (Lord – if he isn’t, he should be!) Andrew Neil Show” this evening, in the privacy of my apartment at the Salford Maximum Security Twilight Home for Bewildered Geriatric Politicians (rated as “Outstanding” by the CQC), using my Bluetooth headphones in case Matron overheard.
As we all know, (Lord) Andrew Neil doesn’t take prisoners! I fell asleep during (Sir – “I wish I wasn’t”) Kier Stammers interview. Well, he is apparently known as “Sedative” Stammer amongst the more progressive and leftist member of the Labour Party.
Anyway, I digress. I am allowed to do so, after all I am a Senior Citizen. Whilst watching “Ar Becky’s” performance, strains of Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Evita” started to waft through my mind, reminding me of Madonna’s performance in “Evita”. The hand motions, hair strokes etc added to the illusion when she sang on the balcony of the Casa Rosada. (Oh, the RED House? Well, almost! That’s a coincidence!”) Even the strain of facing (Lord) Andrew Neil showed in the same way!

The only person capable of leading Labour to victory is KEIR STARMER. For this reason alone, I as a retired Socialist, a man who has seen the light, want Miss Becky to be elected leader of Labour. For him to say that Socialism hasn't been responsible for a 'single human death' is absolutely breathtaking. When you couple this abrogation of truth alongside the Labour Party's hideous anti-Semitism, the only conclusion that can be made is that Labour, and their representatives, be it Miss Bekka, or Ray of Sunshine, are simply not fit for purpose.
