GM MAYOR ANDY BURNHAM TO CUT ANOTHER FIRE ENGINE FROM SALFORD

This week, details of cuts to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have been rubber stamped by GM Mayor, Andy Burnham, as Salford's second fire engine will be axed (along with the second fire engine from Gorton), probably in April 2020. Over the whole of Greater Manchester, it will take the total of cut fire engines to nine, including Eccles' second engine, announced in October*. Also lost will be second fire engines in Manchester Central, Blackley, Heywood, Moss Side and Oldham, plus a further one at Bolton Central following the merger of two stations into one. Stations will also be merged at Thompson Street and Phillips Park, and Stockport and Whitehill. Following the cuts, Greater Manchester will be left with 38 fire stations, when previously there were 41. The results of a consultation on the proposed £12.8million cuts - which would have seen 47 fire engines, when previously there were 56, and 1,052 firefighter posts, when previously there were 1,246 - gave a resounding thumbs down to the proposals.** Now, the plans have been amended to commit, the GM Mayor's report states, to "maintain 1,121 firefighters until April 2020" and "supported by overtime arrangements and the short-term use of reserves, current crewing arrangements can be maintained at 5:4:4 and 50 fire engines to allow more time for discussions with the Fire Brigades Union about the number of fire engines available and the crewing levels that can realistically be achieved. "The long-term viability of this arrangement, however, is dependent on future funding settlements from central government" it adds. The GM Mayor's report explains that it is all about "a new vision and purpose for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS), setting a clear direction of travel for the Service, re-focusing on a 'frontline first' approach, as well as helping to improve Service culture by reinforcing a common sense of purpose shared amongst staff..." How it can be a 'frontline first approach' with two fire engines being cut from Salford is anyone's guess...especially with more buildings going up, a growing population and blocks covered in Grenfell style cladding. Expect a terse response from the local Fire Brigades Union...

| The fire in Bolton SHOULD be a wake up call to the *powers that be* to get ALL the CLADDING of ALL the buildings in the UK. The FAT MAN BORIS was there at the weekend looking at the student digs. He NOW SHOULD do something. Maybe he's waiting for more people to DIE like in grenfell .. Sadly 72 People died.. |

| Article in construction news today, (cant get it up I am not a subscriber), government think construction industry think tank in wake of bolton fire calls for combustable materials ban. Will those 2 knobs take notice? I doubt it. They wont rip that crap off because it may effect their claim against whoever. If they ripped it off they would not need to pay fire marshalls, and the cash saved could pay residents increased fuel bills. the blocks would look shit, but at least the residents would be safe in their beds at night. |

| Look. this is the final warning. Let us hope those two stupid knobs Burham and Dennett heed it. Today. Matt Wragg, boss of the fire brigade union,and so it is obvious he knows what he is talking about, has just said that lessons have not been learned about this cladding crap and that something has to be done about it.On Friday Bolton was lucky. You cannot rely on luck where fire safety is concerned. Just wait till a few have been convicted of manslaughter, and gone down the big steps for a while. The others will all shit their pants, and they will soon get that cladding sorted. |

| There was something up with that fire in Bolton.Something very wrong. Stories are going round saying the alarms were not working. This simply can not be allowed. There were over 200 students in there, it was Friday night, so we can imagine that most of them were pissed or perhaps something a little stronger.That roof seemed to be burning rather well, probably due to all that polystyrene insulation they put in them these days. This incident could have been very serious, the fire dept obviously thought so with 200 fire crew and 40 engines.Let us hope that this is a final wake up call to all people concerned with these modern construction systems. |

| More than 600 fire fighters been CUT in the greater Mcr area since 2010. There was 200 BRAVE fire fighters and 40 fire engines there Friday night in Bolton. A Quote from chief fire officer Dave keelan said "this building was not clad in the same material as grenfell". Still had CLADDING on this building. Roughly 900days now since 72people lost there LIVES.when are the government going to do something. |

| Ken makes a good point here.Sounds like he knows a bit about the technical side of fires. Almost as if on cue, we get a very fast burning fire at the student digs in Bolton.They are quick to tell us its different cladding. well perhaps that is right, but what about insulation behind the cladding? From the video clips I have seen of this blaze, it looks like burning bits of molten plastic are falling down. Burnham and Dennett were both going on about this fire. What its got to do with Dennett I don't know. He is the mayor of Salford not Bolton. He should put his own house in order first. |

| I live in London and we have had 10 station closures and now 23 appliances cut. Back in the 70s there was less synthetic materials in buildings, so the flash-over took 13-14 mins well after the fire brigade arrived. Now there is more synthetic materials the flash-over takes 3-4 mins well before the fire brigade arrive.
The people responsible for these cuts need to gain more
knowledge of fire because we are seeing fire turning into a
massive inferno due to longer response times caused by
less fire appliances, longer distance travel and more congestion on the roads. There has been an increase in the loss of lives
in fires and still they continue to decimate a very important service. |

| Shame on you, we need to get rid of Andy Burham and Paul Dennett for that matter, how many more services are going to be cut by these two, cutting more fire engines, have cut mental health and other help, are building over priced rented homes, selling off land for over priced bought houses, increasing already over populated Salford areas but not opening any new Dr's or schools, not helping people who have disabilities, making them work when being ill is hard enough, where is affordable housing for families with kids with additional needs, the list goes on, Paul Dennett on Facebook and in the paper pretending he cares and going on about how happy he is that some more houses are being built yet hes brushed it under the carpet and not helped at all, about the housing situation I'm in and a lot of others are living in, I live in a medical flat, it has mould etc and making us ill does he care no, Burnham and Bennett go on like they care but what have they done Nothing Shame on you both and your dodgy government |

| I pay my council tax like many other millions of people. It pays for loads of stuff including the FIRE service that has CUTS all around greater Manchester. THANK GOD,there is no fire stations being CUT in SALFORD. We still have our 5 in irlam,Eccles,agecroft,broughton and Liverpool street. We still ave the CLADDING DEATH BLOCKS. we got new building's going up everywhere in Salford. |
