Two hundred years on from the actual day of the Peterloo Massacre, hundreds of people gathered outside Manchester Central, the site of the original St Peter's Field, where 18 people died and up to seven hundred were injured by charging military during a peaceful rally for democracy and a better standard of living.
Amongst the choirs and rousing speeches, at 1pm the area fell silent as the names of the dead were read out by Mike Leigh, Danny Boyle, Peterloo victim descendant, Sue Stennett, and other descendents of those closely associated with Peterloo, plus activists, Peterloo memorial campaigners and media people.

"People chanted, cheered and raised their fists against those who put profit before people" says Salford resident, Alice Searle, who acted as a 'laurel' for the show "Both Mike Leigh and Danny Boyle congratulated the volunteers for their support of today's campaigns..."
One of the names of the Peterloo dead was also read out by artist and photographer, Red Saunders, whose incredible Hidden tableaux's of Peterloo are being projected onto the wall of the Bridgewater Hall tonight from 9:15pm.
