This Wednesday, 7th August, the Save Swinton Park Golf Club campaign is holding its third public meeting to try and stave off Bellway Homes, which is hoping to buy the Club and grounds for £30million for housing. The campaign has recently launched a petition to Salford City Council against such a move, arguing that "It would be an ecological and environmental disaster..."* Meanwhile, a video and song, a re-working of Dirty Old Town, has been posted on the Save Swinton Park Golf Club Facebook page**, including the verses... | Funnily enough Bob, the Committee and main shareholders decided this was to be the case. If we didnt know better, it would appear that very wealthy people have set the agenda, imposed the qualifying criteria and then set the timescale where shares were offered, which was 1 week after the AGM which only those present were made aware of. Presumably the email machine mustve been broken to inform the rest of the members at the time?
But nevermind eh? Sod everyone else. Sod the damage to the environment. Sod the increase in air pollution from 1000+ addtional cars at that point of the East Lancs, sod the health benefits that comes from playing golf, sod the environment and lack of greenfields that we leave behind for our kids and grandkids as Bob the Regular defends millionaires and housebuilders who dont care about the damage caused or loss incurred as long as their pockets are full.
Glad to know where you stand on this Bob and I assumed you named yourself 'the regular' on account of you seemingly always commenting on these news reports but now I realise you are called 'regular' because you are full of sh1t |

| Certainly not looking down on anybody who is not rich. I am not rich. All I said was , who had the idea that you had to have 250k to invest in new club? It seems ,in the later article that this may be the subject some legal wrangling. To buy out the club from its former owner/administrator/whatever 1.2 million quid was needed. If you divide that by the 3000 campaigners thats 400 quid each. I understand there are about a thousand club members. that would be just over a grand each. Hindsight is often a thing that plays tricks on your mind. How many United fans now realize that Michael Knighton had the right idea many years ago? If they had gone along with his ideas years ago they would have seen their family heirloom shares rocket in value by about 40 times, not that the devout would ever consider selling them, and they would probably be paying 200 quid a year for their season ticket like they do at Bayern Munich. Like I said before people have got to live somewhere. We need less people or more houses. |

| Hey Bitter Bob! Green spaces are for wildlife too, not just moaning people like you. Bats, Owls, Swans, Carps, Ducks, bees, frogs, newts, foxes, hedgehogs and insects etc. have SSP as their home, not too mention rare birch trees. Green spaces also contribute to cleaner air that you, and thousands of other people, breath in this beautiful city. Salford should be proud that it has 60% Greenland and I hope we keep it that way! We should keep areas for leisure too, not more and more houses. How dare you look down on people who cant afford hundreds of thousands of pounds and call them. Shame on you! |

| Please explain who it was who came up with the idea that you had to have 250 grand just to buy shares in the club? Who came up with the idea to set up the new company? Why did nobody contest it then? With regards to nature and open spaces, can we not have an ultra green eco development to showcase? Regards doctors schools etc. It is a fact that for whatever reasons (I have no comments on these) the population of our country , alone in europe, has risen at a huge rate, while most other states it is shrinking. The fact is ,we are building nowhere near enough houses to put these people in,no matter if they are mansions for the rich, or shoddy housing provider rubbish for the poor. where ever you try and put houses, people object. We have so many experts in charge, and they still make a balls of it.Here, you have the former bricky in charge. He knows what he is doing, and before long you will see the houses. |

These are not just golfers campaigning- as residents we are concerned about wildlife and green spaces and pressures on our already pressured services like doctors, schools and lack of transport. | To answer your comments. First off, in order to qualify to have the right to buy shares when they were offered, you needed proof that you have £250,000 in your bank account.
Considering most members of the golf club are not millionaires and are just ordinary hard working folk not many were eligible to do such a thing.
Secondly, any member of the Salford public who wish to join as a playing member or even as a social member can indeed walk the course. All are welcome and we are not an exclusive club, we are open to all.
You should try removing that chip from your shoulder and give your head a wobble as it might just balance out your own ridiculous, unfounded and unqualified biases based on nothing but your own ignorance |

| "It's their club", just like the United fans who go on about the Glaziers. Well ,just like the United fans, I bet most of these moaning golfers were unwilling to put their hands in their pockets when it was financially re organised last time. They let someone else do it, while they wanted the benefit cheap.Now they find they don't own it. They go on about open green space, do they like the idea of the Salford public walking round the golf course? I am sure they do. |
