The biennial and unfortunately named Manchester Histories Festival runs across Greater Manchester until 12th June with over 180 events and activities including historical re-enactments, Spitfire flyovers, stories from diverse communities and walking and bike tours.
In Salford there's six events over the next week ranging from a music gig to local history, to wood crafting workshops and a World War 1 networking event. Here's the full list...

Fishing the Dustbowl

Will Kaufman performs and talks about some of his Woody Guthrie songs, while John Conolly sings a selection of songs about life and work in the east coast fishing industry. They're at it again, confusing Manchester with Salford but these short talks by staff from the University of Salford's Centre for Applied Archaeology will, we understand, include information about the unearthing of the old prison at New Bailey, as well as local Roman forts and roads, medieval halls, industrial workers' housing and textile mills. There's also an interesting looking series of free events called Radicals Assemble! After Hours at the People's History Museum, which kicks off on Thursday 9th June 5pm-8pm. They'll be showcasing radical heroes, debating current events and hosting exciting and quirky happenings, with the galleries open all evening too. The first After Hours night includes talks, performances, and an audience with the inspirational activist Betty Tebbs. For more information click here.
