Salford's 14 year old fundraiser, Ethan Evans, has been recognised for his prodigious efforts in helping to raise thousands of pounds for local charities with the British Citizen Award (BCA).
To get the prestigious award the organisers state that nominees "need to be achieving something exceptional, a BCA should not be considered as a replacement for bouquet of flowers or a thank you note, it is recognition for determined, committed endeavour in improving the workplace or community – effectively impacting the lives of those around them".
Patron, Sarah, Duchess of York, adds that the BCA "rewards monumental efforts that would otherwise have gone relatively unnoticed"...
Ethan, who has overcome serious illnesses to become a top swimmer, has also been determined in his pursuit of funds for good causes, ranging from Narrowgate homeless shelter to St Ann's Hospice. His BCA is in the Young Achiever category for under 16s, and he will go to the Palace of Westminster with his granddad, Edwin, to receive it in July.
"This is a very prestigious, and we will start off with a tour in an open top bus to celebrate the people to be honoured" says Edwin Green "We will then have a tour of the Palace of Westminster and in the evening we will attend a reception where Ethan will collect his medal. He will be the youngest ever to receive this award and he will have the special privilege to use the letters BCA after his name."
