SALFORD MAYOR CANDIDATES LIST GROWS TO SEVEN HOPEFULS

Star date: 29th February 2016 TUSC ANNOUNCES IT'S STANDING IN SALFORD MAYOR ELECTION The list of candidates standing to replace Salford City Mayor, Ian Stewart, has grown to seven, with Salford TUSC (Trade Union and Socialist Coalition) and business woman, Maxine McCarthy, joining the race. It's going to be one huge ballot paper at the election for Salford Mayor this May, with two more candidates added to the ever growing list. Already declared are the Labour Party's Paul Dennett, the Conservative Party's Robin Garrido, UKIP's Owen Hammond, the Green Party's Wendy Olsen and Independent Michael Felse. Today, into the ring comes former boxer and business woman, Maxine McCarthy, and Salford TUSC (Trade Union and Socialist Coalition), which meets on March 9th to decide its candidate...
"Last Tuesday Salford's Labour Council approved a further £22m cuts; cuts that will have a devastating impact on the city and the services that we all rely on" states TUSC "This was despite the fact that Salford Against Cuts met recently and sent an alternative, `no cuts' budget to all Councillors that would be legal and would stop the cuts for the next twelve months. Instead, rather than fight for our city and our services, the councillors yet again did the Tories' dirty work. "TUSC hopes that Jeremy Corbyn does transform the Labour Party into one that properly fights for the 99% against austerity" it adds "However, it is clear in Salford that it is business as usual for the Labour Council, despite Jeremy Corbyn's leadership. Therefore, Salford TUSC is planning to stand in every ward again this year and also in the city mayoral elections." With seven candidates in the race already, the mayoral election is hotting up as current Mayor, Ian Stewart, is finally piping down... | Labour and their senior national and local leaders have blatantly abused their positions for personal benefit for years (eg. Tony Blair, Hazel Blears and Ian Stewart (and entourage)
The Salford Star has lead on reports of abuses of local power. The people of Salford staunchly support the spirit of a Labour Party that no longer exists or is represented in Salford.
The Local Labour Party is long overdue a serious shock to reinvigorate the Party to work for the People and not themselves.
The Election of a new Mayor on the 5th April is the perfect opportunity for Salford voters to support the person and what they will do for the City and residents rather than blindly voting for party colours. |

| I bothered to turn out for the 'should we have a mayor' election, and I voted against the idea. I can't help thinking we ended up with a mayor by accident. Not to mention that we are going to be getting a Greater Manchester mayor on top of it all. |

| Nobody in Salford wants a Mayor to take abuse. In fact check out the word Skank and you will find it fits the abuser. It can even be used at MediaCityUK without a fine. So again the cowardly sad skank abuser who continues to abuse my name can rot in hell if they think my leadership would allow their abuse unchecked. Of course he says much about his political party that allows abuse, discrimination, bullying and lies to Salford voters. Permit me to extend my accurate phrase to Salford Labour where the cap fits. |

| Pity for the sad skank who continues abusing my name. Reminds me when junior school playground kids in the 70's thought it OK to be abusive. I am glad me being Headmaster of Salford Adult Skills Academy makes me able to deal with such cowards. This low level abuse can only go to indicate their own mental health problems. I strongly advice them to seek help and not to let their mental health deteriorate. This type of need is why I will treble the Salford Council spend in real terms on Health and Wellbeing Improvement Teams to make Salford the best service in the UK. Hopefully more of the people will wake up this time. To be honest the sheep would vote in a dead tree if it has a labour badge on it. |

| and to add, a growing number of Salford Labour members are whistle-blowing after their majority did not vote for Paul Dennett who only got about 300 out of 900+ eligible members' votes. I am pleased to be asked how to ditch him. Simple, ask Labour voters to not vote for the man. That puts one of the others standing for Mayor in for a short time. When that new Mayor's budget goes to the Councillors' mandatory vote it will be rejected. This causes a re-election. Then pick Paul Wilson or any other Labour hopeful that understands Strategic Business Crisis Plans. But beware anyone seeking to become the none-Labour Mayor can expect stress, confrontation, bullying, abuse and potential personal bankruptcy or even prison as the majority Councillors will vote on mismanagement. Expect a grand measure of ageing. Bring it on! |

| Good to see Fred explain the national deficit. Income and Expenditure at Salford Council is our worse nightmare. Too little income to pay the.bills. Extreme and urgent action is needed. Sadly whoever becomes Mayor must know one third of all the Councillors has to approve the Mayor's expenditure budget. Labour will block anyone but their own Mayor in Salford from keeping office. They already have enough Councillors to do so. I look forward to a showdown as we prepare for this bloodiest of battles for Salford's survival. The conflict will see Salford be a bankrupt Council within 2 years. One outcome can then be the Mayor and Deputy taking the wrap, with possible prison or them being made bankrupt for their management. Scary days ahead! |

| There was a gap between what Labour (Blair-Brown) was spending and what it was receiving in tax revenues in the few years before the great crash and recession of 2008.
But that gap was not massive: sometimes it was a tiny bit bigger than the growth rate of the economy, sometimes a bit smaller; which means there was no significant increase in the ratio of public sector debt to national income or GDP.
Thus in 2007-8, public spending was 40.2% of GDP, compared with tax revenues that were 37.5% of GDP: so the deficit was 2.7% of GDP.
And to put those figures into context, public spending by the government of Margaret Thatcher was significantly higher than that for her first seven years in office - and she consistently ran a deficit of that scale till her last three years in office.
The crash and recession were mainly caused by the banks and financial services industry, not just in the UK but around the world (e.g. Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac in the U.S.).
The Labour government (and Thatcher government) played their part in this by de-regulating the financial services industry.
The economy was growing strongly (under Labour) up until the crash and recession of 2007-2008. Since then, the national debt has doubled, from roughly 40% of GDP to 80% of GDP.

| I was pleased to meet Salford Star today to show the best way forward for Salford. I also welcome Maxine and Wendy. There is all to fight for and I am pleased to mention with Wikipedia updating population statistics we now know 224,040 people live in Salford. Last time's Mayor pulled 20,663 in the first round. Only 10% of Salford residents voted Labour. With 90% not wanting Labour their game gets worse as 10,000 people disappear from Salford's electoral roll. I welcome candidates to tell us their policy. Mine being Business Skills with hard strategy to legally make London W.E.Ts (Westminster Etonian Tories) pay over £2billion to regenerate Salford and making London wipe out the debt crisis caused by local Labour. After 4 years in making the Westminster Tories payback what they took from us they must legally hand Salford back to Salford's then locally elected choice. Simple logic is my way of Saving Salford. Jobs, homes, services and the healthy life we deserve. Others please share your own policy. |

| Andrew - I agree. Why do we people in Salford pay one person £275,000 to sit in a chair for 4 years? Please ask everyone to think if the person is worth £275,000 of our money. Then add on a deputy and 13 assistant mayors to ask why do we pay £1,500,000. Salford in Crisis and you do know why? |

| I welcome diversity into the election. May I ask all standing to be clear on one important topic. The EU. I am pushing the Out of EU call. Salford stands to gain in jobs if we get out, but it has to be said Salford Council has to end its head in the sand policy. My main issue being net inward migration. We cannot sustain an NHS and Housing service at the influx pace. Also jobs. In the UK there are 853,000 young people classed as Not in Training, Education or Employment. The Tories & Labour UK parties will today vote an extension of EU schemes to overwhelmingly see many of UK jobs advertised and taken up by people from other EU countries. We need to train at home and get the jobs to our 853,000 young people here that do not have a job. |
