SALFORD MAYOR ELECTION SHOCK AS THREE CANDIDATES DROP OUT

Star date: 8th April 2016 SALFORD MAYOR ELECTION WILL SEE ONLY FOUR CANDIDATES The Salford Mayor election on 5th May will see only four candidates, as two independents and TUSC dropped out of the contest to replace Ian Stewart. Now the election will be fought by Wendy Olsen for the Green Party, Owen Hammond for UKIP, Paul Dennett for the Labour Party and Robin Garrido for the Conservative Party. Full details here...

With the final nominations for the Salford City Mayor election on May 5th having now closed, the official list of candidates has been published on the Council's website and shows that three of those who originally declared they were standing have dropped out, or failed to get their papers in on time. Matt Kilsby, who was to stand for TUSC, and independents Maxine McCarthy and Michael Felse have pulled out, leaving just four candidates to battle it out. Officially confirmed candidates are now... At the last election, in 2012, there were ten candidates and Ian Stewart was elected Mayor, having got 46% of the vote in the first ballot, and a majority in the second count. So, now we have it. You are a ukip supporter desperately trying to improve your own party's chances, by attempting to persuade candidates from other parties to stand down.
Elections are about choice, Mr Felse. By denying choice, you deny democracy. It is for the Salford electorate to decide. Not you. If you not want the Salford electorate to have a choice, then persuade your own party to withdraw. |

| Hi Old Salfordian. Be sure I would never stop people having choice. I have spent 40 years at the centre of driving Equality, Diversity and Inclusion work. Even wrote the national Active Citizenship programme for City & Guilds about community choice. What my Star blog says is that I support the work by groups (including Greens) in how they mainstream action to improve things in our World. My reservation is about them being soiled by political ambition. I have to respect the honesty of UKIP as it drives issues clearly about an important political message. While I say The Greens should be a charity of respect. |

Why do you wish to deny choice to the Salford electorate?
Any Party, or independant candidate is entitled to stand in the election. It's not for you to say who should or shouldn't stand.
In answer to your question - The Green Party is the political party that offers the best hope of a greener future. I guess that's why they have a candidate |

| Hi Old Salfordian. Personally I would like the Green Party to be a charity, protecting our precious environment and helping us all to learn how best to save the planet. I do not like them getting into the grubby world of politics which I fear does them more harm than good. I urge Wendy to throw her support into which of the political parties offers her the best hope for the Greener future. I would suggest not Labour nor Tory on their catelogue of errors. |

| Thank you for asking. The two go together, by not putting in the fully signed nomination and with-holding my £1000 it stopped the process that was already in place within the legal returning office. In summary this caused the withdrawal of the election address at a stroke. The real issue is in how this strategy will help cause the downfall of Salford Labour for which I am delighted to be aligned. |

| I will certainly not be voting for Councillor Dennet. This man promised to make the "Saford Housing Allocation Policy" more "Equality Friendly", in an article that featured me, in the Salford Star, dated the 15th of October 2014. This so called councillor promised to stop enforcing the over 55 age banding on properties for the vulnerable and disabled who live within Salford. Did he do what he promised. "No he did not". It is still the policy of the "Salford Housing Allocation System" known as "Salford Home Search" managed by "Salix Homes" on behalf of "The Salford Council" to disallow bids on over 55 properties, if a disabled or vulnerable adult is under the age of 55 and tries to bid on an adapted / suitable property, even though the vulnerable and disabled are "Exempt" from such "Age Banding Policies". Recently a solicitor informed "Salford Homes Search" that it is a "Section 149 Breach of the Equality Act", to use a "Blanket Policy" on the "Salford Home Search Website", that restricts the "Vulnerable and Disabled" from bidding on properties for the over 55's. Did Councillor Dennet or the Labour Council take any notice, "Absolutely Not". However the Salford Star printed a story recently that featured Councillor Dennet, apparently bending the "Social Housing Allocation System", to ensure he gained a Social Housing Property. In my opinion, he simply jumped the "Salford Social Housing Waiting List" to acquire a property, with an organisation / board, to which he is a board member. So "Councillor Dennet", in my opinion, is happy to allow "The Salford Home Search Website", managed by "Salix Homes", on behalf of the "Salford Council" to "Breach the Equality of every disabled and vulnerable applicant who bids on a over 55 property within Salford", but will bend the rules, if it suits his needs. I call this "Double Standards". Therefore, in my opinion, anyone who votes for Councillor Dennet to be Mayor of Salford, will be voting for a man who's motto is "Don't do as I do", "do as I say". |

| "DownButNotOut" I'm not sure what you say. I am also a Union member (Unison 30years, NUM before that). Like you I want new hope, but Councillor Paul Dennett is already in the Salford Labour Mayor cabinet. No hope in hell for change there. As for Coucllr Garrido his tale in Salford Star tells how he worships Osborne savage cuts. Only the Greens or UKiP can give us improvement. But we cannot have both. My trust is in the new page from UKiP because when the OUT of EU vote wins Salford will be up front having UKiP to forge us ahead in new policies. I support UKiP while I do fully thank the good work of the Greens. |

| Can I correct this if I may Matt Kilsby from TUSC wanted to be elected Mayor but it was felt by some people that Paul Dennett should be given a chance to prove his worth and he better make use of this position especially with the austerity cuts which the people of Salford do not want anymore! There is still 18 out 20 wards being covered by TUSK candidates. We really want to make a change in Salford we have had enough of Councillors and the Mayor sitting by and making massive cuts for the Tory party. The Council needs a good shake up, we need people in there that are not afraid to be transparent, open and honest and who will work endlessly for the people they serve!! |

| Not often I agree with Mr Felse, and I dislike UKIP intensely but a win for them would be the best thing to happen to Salford in a long time as it'll help end the Labour Party's apathetic and arrogant one party dictatorship. They've had it way too easy around here and for way too long. They're only ever going to put the public first if they're in real fear of being booted out |

| Wendy do not take it personal but look at the big picture. If you withdraw now the anti Labour vote will bring Salford change. Where the comment wrote about "a rotten city" I think they meant those who are causing us harm. I urge The Greens to do what Matt, Maxine and I have done. Withdraw, help ditch Salford Labour. You will win respect. |

| The four that are left , are probabaly all yes men anyway , in 4 years time i will stand and gone will be the days of tearing our city down to replace it with unaffordable housing, in other words social cleansing. And gone will be cuts to the vulnerable. What we need is a Mayor who will stand up for this city and not bow down to government cuts. This council will be transparent and accountable. Stewart had 13 assistant mayors - what was the cost? A real Mayor leads... |

| Salford Star helped explain a short-field will put Labour in serious danger. The seat is now winnable by UKiP. I ask supporters to vote UKiP; best hope for Salford. Labour has clearly failed us. Thanks Salford Star for helping see the real opportunity. I know coming out of the EU will be great news for jobs in Salford. |
