All over Salford people are donating time, money, goods and food to victims of the Lower Broughton Boxing Day flood.
Facebook pages like St Bonifaces/Broughtons Flood Clear Up and Community Flood Support Group have been inundated with offers of furniture and fridges, while some big companies are getting on board, including Salford Tesco which delivered loads of cleaning products, food and cooling buckets to St Bonifaces today. Tomorrow morning sees a meeting to accept and co-ordinate delivery of desperately needed kitchen appliances.
Meanwhile, for the past two days, `man with a van' Joseph Merrishaw has put aside his business commitments to volunteer his time and van to pick up and drop off big items that have been donated.
This afternoon, Joseph was on Cygnus Avenue in Lower Broughton delivering a sofa and fridge to one flood victim, and then he was off to Heath Avenue to drop off more stuff to a needy family.
"Everything's been donated and I go and pick it up and then distribute it" says Joseph "It's for anybody who wants it and messages me on Facebook. It's a helping hand isn't it? And if I was in this predicament I'd like to think that someone would do the same. This is about the people themselves helping each other out."
