Last month, the Sounds of Salford radio station launched online and has conquered the world podcast charts. Now comes Worsley Radio, another online station with a community focus serving the area which includes Boothstown, Little Hulton and further afield.
It's been set up by Raymond Rowe who has run internet stations for 15 years and is looking to get the community involved either as DJs, helping with admin or by informing the station of local happenings and coming on the shows to talk about them.
"The aim of the station is to get local people interested and involved in not only listening to, but getting involved in the running of the radio and media broadcasting over the internet" Raymond explains "In its first month it has already attracted the attention of local companies, community groups and charities that are now advertising onsite and some with vocal adverts on the radio.
"We have an open door policy and would like the local people of Worsley and surrounding area to come along and try being DJ for a show, or if they have admin skills or interests we would like to hear from them" he adds "Members of the community are also more than welcome to pop in or contact us for advice on using social media sites to help them bring more focus on their local group or events. I previously suffered from social anxiety issues, and used radio to build up my own self-confidence, so I want to use the radio to try and help in the local community."
At the moment, Worsley Radio has twelve shows during the week with DJs Sheldon Snow, Hanky Park, NG Lois and Diane Marie, with constant pre-selected track plays. It also features a what's on section on its website, has a newsletter currently in production and is aiming to add video broadcasting in the future with Worsley TV.
The station will add to the growing number of air/netwave attacks from Salford which already include Salford City Radio and the Sounds of Salford... "I wish them every success, it is great that radio stations are springing up all over Salford" says Simon Williams of Sounds of Salford "It proves people are fed up with mainstream radio..."
