A POEM FROM TUSC AND SURGE FROM GREENS

The Green Party in Salford states that it is looking for the 20% share of the vote that election website `vote for policies' predicts it should get if people were purely voting on, er, policies. The site puts the Greens second in all three of Salford's constituencies and just 1% behind Labour in Blackley and Broughton.

Meanwhile Worsley and Eccles South anti-cuts TUSC candidate Noreen Bailey aims to appeal to Salford's female voters with a poem she's written called Just A Woman...

The Salford Green Party is reporting a `surge' in support in the city, fired by the election website www.voteforpolicies.org.uk which allows people to blindly agree or disagree with parties' manifestos before revealing who they should vote for. It puts the Greens second in all three of Salford's constituencies and just 1% behind Labour in Blackley and Broughton.

"In Salford and Eccles the Green Party is polling around 7% ahead of the usual second placed party, the LibDems" states the Salford Green Party "In the past the Salford Green vote has been anywhere between 1-8%, to achieve the 20% desired, and predicted in these polls, would be a great result and would put the party in a great position to challenge the Labour Council in the 2016 Council Elections as well as keep Green issues at the heart of politics in Salford."

Meanwhile Noreen Bailey the Salford TUSC anti-cuts candidate in Worsley and Eccles South, has written a last minute poem to drum up support from women...

JUST A WOMAN

I know I'm only a woman so meek and mild you think
And only place I should be is chained to the kitchen sink
I'm also just a mother having to see to everyone's needs
But I discovered books you know so now I sit and read

The knowledge I have learned through taking time for me
I sit and read and multi task with the children on my knee
My husband could never realise to him I was just a wife
But now he sees a different me with a different way of life

Still I am a mother a cook a cleaner and a wife
But suddenly through reading I could enrich all our lives
Now I will fight for others just like our sisters from the past
And spread the word to this nation our love for freedom will last...

Voting booths are open until 10pm tonight and the Salford Star will be reporting live tonight at the General Election count and tomorrow at the Local Election count...
