Michael Collins, age 19, pleaded not guilty to `dangerous driving' at Manchester Magistrates Court today.

Collins, who drove his car into Salford pensioners' right and trade union campaigner, George Tapp, was finally charged by GMP last month.

George, a former Salford City councillor from Ordsall, was on a demonstration against blacklisting outside Manchester City's new training ground complex in East Manchester when Collins' Ka hit him and two other campaigners before driving away. George was left with two broken legs and a fractured skull.

The case now goes to a committal hearing at the Crown Court on 27th January 2014. For full details see previous Salford Star articles – click here and click here.

In response, tomorrow at noon, residents will hold a special Santa protest at the site entrance..."It's vital that our community makes it clear that a threat from a multi-billion pound developer...will not scare us into signing away our democratic legal rights" states the group.
