On June 18th and 19th a huge youth football tournament is taking place at De La Salle FC on Lancaster Road. Over seventy teams will take part from all over Salford and the North West, competing in five age groups – under 6s, 7s, 8s, 9s and 10s.

The under 6s, 7s and 8s are non-competitive and everyone taking part will receive a medal; while the under 9s and 10s games are competitive.

"With over two thousand people expected to attend this is going to be a great event and will truly put Salford at the heart of football" says Melinda O'Connor from De La Salle "And there will be lots of other things going on to keep all the family entertained.

"We are reintroducing the tournament after a three year break due to redevelopment of the site" she adds "We now boast fantastic changing room facilities, along with a cafe and a dedicated treatment room thanks to the FA. De La Salle is dedicated to its players and the club has a real family friendly feel to it."

There are still places left for teams to take part, while the organisers are also looking for people to help on the actual day of the tournament.

Just contact Melinda on 07725 000801 or e-mail delasallejfc@gmail.com
The tournament organiser is Anthony Walker 077758 77052

THIS IS OUR HISTORY...

Peterloo, the movie, starring Maxine Peake, was premiered in Manchester last night at Home. The Salford Star was not invited but we did manage a non-exclusive twenty second interview with Salford director Mike Leigh on the red carpet, and a viewing at the peasants' overflow on Deansgate. Is it any good? Read our review and that crucial interview with Mike Leigh.
