SALFORD CITY COUNCIL EXPENDITURE JAN 2011

Star date: 9th March 2011

SALFORD COUNCIL HANDS PEEL MEDIA OVER £500,000
…GIVES HUGE GRANT TO CORPORATION WITH MULTI £BILLION TURNOVER… AND WON'T TELL HOW IT'S SPENT OVER £1MILLION!

Salford Council has finally revealed its expenditure over £500 for January 2011 – well maybe not, as it's not saying who it's paid over £1million to, including one company that's pocketing over £200,000.

Full story click here…

Salford City Council's expenditure over £500 for January 2011 has been revealed but over £1million of payments have been kept secret – under the `redacted personal data' umbrella.

While many of the small payments are to residents for disturbance money or whatever which would legitimately come under the `redacted' heading, huge payments of almost £1million to companies (or one company) for `capital expenditure' (Pmnt to Ctrs-Improv) have not been identified. There's seven of these payments totalling £953,000, including amounts of £227,267; £205,484 and £181,047.

Also `redacted' are many payments to consultants, and a Chief Executive grant of £20,430 to whom and for what, we don't know. So much for transparency!

Elsewhere, Peel Mediaowners of MediaCityUK – get paid £808,116 (minus £245,772 for some reason, making £562,343 in total) for `capital expenditure'.

Sodexo, which does `Quality of Daily Life Solutions' and runs Forrest Bank Prison gets a huge grant of £84,301. Sodexo boasts `consolidated revenues of 15.3billion Euros'.

Meanwhie, despite trying to flog off 15 buildings around the city, a new one has been purchased for over half a million quid from Fieldings, the auctioneers.

Other payments include £4,484.91 to The Lowry for `provisions', £8281.24 to the Manchester Evening News/Salford Advertiser for advertising, £2,132 to Nordic Pioneer for graffiti removal training and a grant of £1,654.95 to Kingsland Wine and Spirits in Irlam.

And Swinton Lions get a massive £5875 sponsorship payout from the Council – compared to millions granted to Salford City Reds and its stadium…

Has this information come from an FoI request. If so, how can a company name be considered "personal data". There should be a request or appeal made via FoI. Then if the council still refuse to disclose, make a formal complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office. They have teams of people to deal with censorship, sorry FoI requests !!

NUMBER OF COUNCILLORS COULD BE CULLED IN REVIEW OF WARDS

The number of Salford councillors could be cut in a sweeping review of the city by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England..."The review will re-draw ward boundaries across the city as well as deciding how many councillors should be elected to the council in total" said a spokesperson for the Commission.

Salford currently has three councillors per ward but, with new wards possibly emerging as the city grows, this might be cut to two per ward.

In the latest issue of Salford Council's propaganda mag, Life in Salford, Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett, has denounced the "myth" that "developers don't contribute money to the city. It's simply not true" he says.
