Salford City Council's expenditure over £500 for January 2011 has been revealed but over £1million of payments have been kept secret – under the `redacted personal data' umbrella.
While many of the small payments are to residents for disturbance money or whatever which would legitimately come under the `redacted' heading, huge payments of almost £1million to companies (or one company) for `capital expenditure' (Pmnt to Ctrs-Improv) have not been identified. There's seven of these payments totalling £953,000, including amounts of £227,267; £205,484 and £181,047.
Also `redacted' are many payments to consultants, and a Chief Executive grant of £20,430 to whom and for what, we don't know. So much for transparency!
Elsewhere, Peel Media – owners of MediaCityUK – get paid £808,116 (minus £245,772 for some reason, making £562,343 in total) for `capital expenditure'.
Sodexo, which does `Quality of Daily Life Solutions' and runs Forrest Bank Prison gets a huge grant of £84,301. Sodexo boasts `consolidated revenues of 15.3billion Euros'.
Meanwhie, despite trying to flog off 15 buildings around the city, a new one has been purchased for over half a million quid from Fieldings, the auctioneers.
Other payments include £4,484.91 to The Lowry for `provisions', £8281.24 to the Manchester Evening News/Salford Advertiser for advertising, £2,132 to Nordic Pioneer for graffiti removal training and a grant of £1,654.95 to Kingsland Wine and Spirits in Irlam.
And Swinton Lions get a massive £5875 sponsorship payout from the Council – compared to millions granted to Salford City Reds and its stadium…
