NO LEICESTER STYLE ‘KNEEJERK' REACTION TO COVID-19 CASES URGES GM MAYOR ANDY BURNHAM TO GOVERNMENT
|
|
Star date: 13th August 2020 NO FURTHER RELAXATION OF BUSINESS OPENING, APART FROM BEAUTY INDUSTRY, BURNHAM TELLS GOVERNMENT Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham, has written to the Government urging no further relaxing of business openings, apart from for the beauty industry. At this afternoon's press conference he also implored the Government not to impose any 'kneejerk measures' Leicester style lockdowns in response to increased virus cases. Burnham did concede that, depending on virus rates for Oldham (high) and Wigan (low) next week, the boroughs could have differential restrictions; while GM Lead on Health, Richard Leese, said that the vast number of people testing positive for COVID are either asymptomatic or have low level symptoms. Full details here...

Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham, and Greater Manchester Health Lead, Richard Leese, have today written to Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Health, stating that they don't believe it is right to see any further relaxation in regard to the opening of a range of additional business premises, like casinos and ice rinks, but do think that beauty salons should be allowed to re-open. "We do believe, given the way in which salons are regulated, that there is a case, and there's an anomaly, allowing barbers but not the beauty industry" Andy Burnham argued at his press conference this afternoon "But with that one exception we are asking the Government not to proceed with the easing of restrictions at this particular time, but that it be reviewed on a weekly basis..." While agreeing that current restrictions on social gatherings in homes should be maintained, Burnham implored the Government not to impose any "kneejerk measures" Leicester style lockdowns in Greater Manchester. While he conceded that it was a question for the Government, "we don't believe that it is necessary now" he said "We want to continue with the current restrictions with more high profile work on the ground in Oldham to break the chain of transmission... "To implement a lockdown in one part of Greater Manchester would be a very challenging thing to do" he explained "What worked in Leicester is not necessarily going to be right for Greater Manchester given the inter-connective nature of the city region." Burnham and Leese did reveal that, if the virus rates remain the same in a week's time, there could be differential restrictions across Greater Manchester, particularly in the two extreme towns of Wigan (low rate) and Oldham (high rate). "We would need to keep these situations under review" said Burnham "Whether or not we can relax the restrictions in the Wigan borough but also whether or not there needs to be a strengthening of actions with respect to Oldham." He began the press conference by referencing the "challenging situation we've got across Greater Manchester...we clearly need to bring the numbers down" and explained that his main message today was that "Everyone needs to get more serious about doing what we can to bring the situation back to a better level..." Richard Leese reported that the Greater Manchester team uses a seven day rolling average of COVID-19 incidence, of which the figures lag four days behind to give a more accurate picture. He added that virus-related 111 calls in the region were relatively very low, that hospital admissions have halved with few deaths, and that the "Vast number of people testing positive for COVID are either asymptomatic or have low level of symptoms...". Nevertheless, cornavirus levels in all ten boroughs but three have increased. The exceptions were Salford (down from 27.8 postive tests per 100,000 people for the week ending 1st August, to 27.4 for the week ending 8th August); Wigan (down from 7.6 to 7.3) and Trafford (down from 33.7 to 23.6). The highest increase was Oldham (57.8 to 108.8), Tameside (26.9 to 37.1) and Rochdale (29.7 to 43.2). While reluctant to just to blame the public for the rise in virus cases, Burnham said he would be writing to the four main supermarket companies about the variable implementation of the wearing of face coverings which was "not acceptable", and wanted the chains - which made vast profits from the lockdown - to employ security to enforce the regulation... "It's unfair to push that off to the police" he said. He also said that there needs to be more compliance around Test and Trace requirement in pubs and clubs in Greater Manchester, particularly around taking people's names and addresses. ... "There's evidence everywhere that residents aren't complying and we need to get that message out to follow the guidance as difficult as it is" Burnham said "But I would be very worried about the narrative developing here that it's all about blaming the public – there's more that the supermarkets should be doing, there's more that pubs should be doing and more that the Government should be doing to help people self isolate and get contact tracers on the ground. "It's the poorest communities that are most exposed" he added "The vast majority of people have done their best to follow the guidelines...It's too easy to just put a community under lockdown - we want to discuss alternatives with the Government, possibly strengthening the measures, but not to a degree where we just come in with something that will cause real disruption to people's lives..." The Government meets this evening to decide on how to proceed in local areas all over the country... Meanwhile, there have been no case numbers reported by the Government today..."We have not received the latest data for cases and tests in England" reads a statement on its website "We will update today's records as soon as they become available...The deaths page is being re–developed."

| Just thinking again about that program . Did the estate agent woman not say that the vast majority of these flats were bought by investors? Am sure she did. Does it not say on Tims (Capital and Centric ltd) website that they don't sell to investors. Am Sure it does. so who is right. Perhaps Tim can tell us. |

| Paul Kelly is right on this one. There is no alternative but coal for the steel industry, but he need not worry to much. We wont have a steel industry much longer. Steel making requires the right people to run it like the management at the Scunthorpe plant. These people know their balls were on the line when they put in a takeover plan to buy the site. If it goes under, they know they are all knackered.Idiot Boris flogged it to the Chinese, who for sure will run it into the ground so we will need to buy Chinese steel from china. I am sure the Chinese will give him all the assurances in the world that they will flog as much dirt cheap steel as he needs to build aircraft carriers to sail around the South China Sea. |

| COAL NOT DOLE in the midst of the Covid pandemic when every job in the UK should be protected and saved an alliance of tory idiots and so called middle class green enviorwrongmentalsts have closed the Bradley open cast coal mine in Durham WITH THE LOSS OF 250 JOBS in an area of high unemployment and deprivation planning permission was not granted for the further extraction of good quality coal to be used in the steel industry and the many other uses for coal making cement plastics etc in the UK. As a consequence of closure it will result in the importation of more coal dirty coal lignite / brown coal from Russia the USA and Australia who already provide 81 per cent of imported coal to the UK the other coal that comes to the UK is provided from Columbia where children as young as seven work in mines. the 7 .9 million tons of coal imported into the UK is transported by ship if the green lobby think that by closing Bradley mine they have done a good job they are seriously deluded pollution will increase working class people have lost long term jobs and they have helped to fund the economies of other countries at the expense of Britain when we need every bit of support available for British workers. With coal importation prices will rise in the energy market leading to more fuel poverty and cold weather deaths last years figures 2019 23 thousand office of national statistics we are now dependent on other countries for our energy needs what a bloody disgrace and the poorest will pay the price along with the elderly and the most impoverished in this society. |

| The programme was a good watch. It had the posh upper class woman that had £1 million to buy a luxury swanky apartment(expensive little box) in mcr city centre. She had lots of clothes and 250 pairs of shoes(seriously). I've got 2pairs of addias trainers(bit worn) and 2pairs of Ben Sherman shoes that i use for special occasions and to take the missus out once a week for a meal, 4pairs of shoes in total, thats it.. Then the programme shows Andy Burnham talking about the homeless and what's he doing, basically nothing. The programme also shown the homeless shelter on Churchill way where the homeless people have one pair of shoes and the clothes they are wearing, no money, you have to have a address to get benefits money.. Then it shows a local single parent from Eccles that works for a living and paying full rent on a private house she is close to being evicted. She moves in with her mother for a few months and she goes to Salford housing asking for a council property, after a few months she manages to get a council flat around paticroft (Eccles).. The programme shows the rich living in expensive high rise tower blocks and the poor living day by day struggling in homeless shelters.. and it shows Andy Burnham. |

| Well Mr Wrote, Looks like I will be going to Italy, the lad who took on my pile of rubble says I can stay there whenever I want and look after it for him as an unpaid caretaker. Suits me.That means I'll be able to rent my pad out to my mates daughter and her kid. It will be at the affordable official rent and I promise to be the best landlord in the world, and keep the house in perfect condition, something Salix and City west don't do. Why is it wrong for me to rent it out,and O K for people like Salix and city west to rent houses out. These are both ltd companies that bought the councils houses for a fraction of what I paid for mine. Each day, time and time again, I hear people saying how these two housing firms do not allocate dwellings to the right people. Should my pals daughter marry a millionaire and move to a mansion in Cheshire, I promise that my allocation policies will meet with the approval of the readers of this journal in a more satisfactory way than either of the two firms I mentioned. Just thinking, when I was on the tools, in a way i reckon you could say I was a housing provider, my work was providing houses. All I get, is my old folks pension, not complaining, but all them lot, who sit on their arses all day in a warm office at the two housing providers I mentioned, when they retire, they will all get a firms pension as well. Perhaps I should have sat on my arse in a warm office. Ah well, I will have to get going, got a million years worth of junk to get rid of the next few months before I go. |

| Did you lot see that Manctopia thing last night? Couple of interesting points there. Our favorite developer Tim, would be Saviour of Buille Hill, Said he didn't know what could be done about the homeless, Well, give me a hectare of that land the council got for nothing, a bit of Burnhams housing fund, and I'll house about 500 of them in cosey little studio flats that I would live in myself. 500 studio aps at 30sq metres would cost about 15 million to build. Lets presume all our homeless would be on the dole. they would be if they had a place to claim from. You could make it a residence condition that housing benefit was paid direct. to save any problems. They would get I think 138 quid a week. Thats 69 grand a week rent. £3.588 million a year , a return on capital of 27.8%. A fantastic return on a property investment. Of course there would be expenses for maintainance and security, but you would still make well over a million a year housing those in greatest housing need. Good money so why dont they do it? Its simple , they dont like poor people. Dennett and Burnham are trying to glitz up our city centres. If it were not for these glitzy flats where the young think they should be, these places would be dead. look at the empty shops in Manchester on the Arndale. Look at the empty shops on that shity little shopping centre on the quays. I've only been there 3 times since it opened. Its all false. Another point, it came out that most of these flats were for investors, something we long suspected. Its ok for our young people to waste their cash on these when there is 2 wages going in, but these kids are not on the so called housing ladder. They are trapped. They cannot afford to have kids themselves. Don't worry its all part of the plan. Its just a scheme to suck all the money out of the country. I liked the girl from Winton with the 2 kids. Its people like them we should be helping, a good decent girl and I am sure we all wish her all the best. I think this promises to be a good series. Make sure you all watch it! |

| People still don't give a monkeys about this deadly serious "Chinese flu". Half the citizens on Eccles/Salford precincts are NOT wearing face masks, NOT keeping distance from each other, yapping to people from different households. Also in Salford, people are STILL having barbecues and house parties with about 30 people.. Last weekend there was a large party at a address in gorton (6miles from Salford borders) with over 200 people, GMP police was called and they had to call for backup because the stupid morons was throwing missiles at the police, the police withdraw.. There was loads of GMP police call outs in the GM areas last weekend involving house parties.. Do these people want to die alone at the hospital with no loved ones around them, just a couple of hospital staff trying to save them. That's how it is. I'm off to get another hazmat protection suit. | Only 2 out of 14 comments relate to this article even the first comment is off topic. The only thing that Covid and Coal have in common is they both start with a "c". I find it disgusting that people use the comments section on an article informing people about developments regarding a terrible virus that is killing people just for the political gain of those they support. The comments should be discussing what the implications are and what can be done for the Salford people to help them through this terrible pandemic, the article is not about Pits, Coal, Thatcher or if Bob was morally right or wrong in buying his home, there are plenty of other Star articles where these things can be debated in the comments section. |

| I accept many people here, with strong socialist views, and perhaps a touch of jealousy, find mrs Thatchers right to buy a little offensive to their beliefs. I respect their views. But what about the Labour right to buy? The one called Pathfinder. This was where Prescott gave the right to Labour councils to buy peoples houses on the cheap , knock them down and ethnically cleanse the area of the people who used to live there. Tell you what I'll do with you all. I will flog my council house back to the council for what I paid for it, if they agree to sell all the cheap pathfinder houses back to the people they bought them of at the same price they paid for them. You are gonna say that cannot be done cos they knocked them all down. Well they didn't. Look at the ones behind the Langworthy that Hazel Blears old pal did up. These are getting on for 200grand each now. The council paid on average about 5 grand each. lets be generous and say Urban splash spent 50 k on each one. (they didn't). That would leave getting on for about 145k for each poor sod that lost their house. These people were just ordinary Salford people just like us, and most of them voted labour. I know for sure there is something going on to get us rid of all these morons on the council at the next election. From people I know close to the councillors , the councillors themselves are worried, even the ones with unassailable majorities. Who are the plotters? What is the plan? I would love to know, I wish them well. I can think of one man who might know whats going on, and I know we can all trust him to tell us whats going on when the time is right. |

I have not seen women get any uglier since they were closed down. They all look the same to me.One of my daughters mates does all that sort of thing.Makes a bomb. Good luck to the girl. So, we have two Socialist views here,One that wants to send our young people down the pits (girls as well,in this equality era), so they can get their faces covered in coal dust, and the other that wants to cover their faces with mascara. | What a couple of clever wrotes we have here. Jealous sorts who no doubt wasted all their cash on trivial things. After paying out over the years, I bought my council house. That is mine.It will never be sold to a speculator or greedy private landlord. When I kick it, it will go to one of my grankids, so they will have somewhere to live. After a lifes work, I had just enough to buy a tumble down cottage ,uninhabitable for 15000 euros in Italy, where some pals live. Anyway, I am a bit knackered now to do it up, so another pal has taken it over. what I was going to do while away was rent it to my pals daughter who lives with him and has a small kid herself. The council will not give her any priority unless he chucks her out and puts her into a homeless home for a couple of weeks, which he wont do. Renting it out at the official council rate would have given me a few quid for materials to do my pad in Italy up. Anyway it won't happen cos my backs gone worse. If it had happened, would I have become some greedy landlord? would I have let it turn into a worse shithole than city west or Salix would have done? Even sat on my arse 1500 miles away in an Italian village I could have done a far better job at getting repairs done than those 2 crap housing firms. All I would have had to do to get jobs done is pick up a phone, I know plenty of good lads round here. You see, what it is,is jealousy. These 2 wrotes do not like the idea of someone from a working class background having something they don't have. They don't say anything about the fat cats at these 2 crap firms earning 3 to 4 grand each week, with big pensions lined up. They don't say anything about the loss of affordable housing caused by their beloved Labour council knocking them down, but they are jealous of the people that bough council housing. Let us get it straight, social housing is not cheap housing. It costs more to build, but it is an expensive way of keeping the workers in their place. All people should own the place they live in ,it makes us all better of.Look at the Japanese. We all know how they have the right idea over there.we know there is full employment of the workers who work there balls off for for good pay, don't live beyond their means, have a better health service than ours, huge infrastructure paid by government, and yet according to World Bank, IMF,and CIA figures, their people are one place below us for the financial wellbeing off their average citizens. Hard to believe, but we are better off because of our higher rate of home ownership. Tell you what our two Mr Wrotes, just keep voting Labour, You will inherit the earth. |

| Well Mr wrote at 00.06, I am not a landlord, but I nearly was. I was going to join a couple of pals in Italy, doing up a tumble down cottage to live in for a couple of years, to get a bit of warmth into my old bones, but due to ill health I had to give up on that idea. Shame, as I was going to rent my old pad out to my mates daughter, who is a single parent and cannot get anything off the housing because they dont put Salford people first. Re the other point wrote makes, it is obvious he does not read this journal often, because if he did, he would know that I am a retired bricky with many strong views on housing and politicians of all political colours. Like many miners, who I respect a lot, my injuries were caused by my work. Paul is right about how the miners union, under great people like Joe Gormly, made great progress in cutting down accidents, but that was not the problem. It is the shit these guys were breathing in. Nothing could be done about that.Paul makes a point about cheap rented housing. Is it that cheap rented housing down Agecroft where the miners used to live that he is thinking about? Hope so. That was ,and still is a great estate, a credit to the people that lived there. Well built houses to Parker Morris standard, and built by the coal board. How many times over, did the miners pay for them houses through their rents and hard work. Blokes who had worked their lives down the pit, and got a pension still had to pay rent when they retired. Paying rent all your life gets you and your family poor. It is what Labour want, and its what the Torys want. It is to keep you all in line. The Torys are clever. They let a few people buy houses who are working class, just to divide them from the others. You know the sort " we've worked hard for what we"ve got, not like them in council houses that don't work and get there rent paid". All people, no matter how rich or poor they are , should own their own house. remember the old cold houses we lived in as kids? The bricks were good , the timber in them proper and seasoned. The slates on the roof were fantastic, even if a few were missing. welsh slate, best in the world.Labour in our city have destroyed more housing than Hitlers airforce ever did.We need to get rid of the wankers running our council and our government, but who do you put in charge? |

| Yes ,Paul is right about how advanced we were on the road to clean technology, also co2 capture which could have been used with surplus green generated energy to make fuels such as methanol, the base for many products. He is right about that wicked old cow thatcher, the way she shit on all the miners. But one thing he forgets, miners lived shorter lives than other blokes (women were not allowed down pits). I knew a good few lads who worked down the pits. good strong lads, but they all died early. Paul I am sure will know the figures. I guess face workers died about 10 years before they should. Its only a guess. Come on Paul tell us. Workers health comes first whether miners or professional footballers. Look how many former players that we loved as kids with dementia. The mines were the Pits, thats where we got the saying from. good riddance to them. |

Last Sunday in the space of 12 hours, Salford police was called to over 40 incidents of people breaking lockdown restrictions (house parties, barbeques with about 25 people).. Last weekend GMP was called out to 540 house parties/gatherings and 48 reports of licenced premies breaching restrictions.. Also the law about face coverings in shops, public transport etc is all bullshit, Half the people on Salford/Eccles precincts don't give a toss and don't wear a face mask because there is no police to enforce it. The big supermarkets have already said it's not there job to get people to wear face masks.. Andy Burnham is now going to ask all the big supermarkets in the greater Manchester areas, it's there duty to get security guards to enforce the wear of face masks or the people will not be allowed in the supermarket..
