Last Sunday, Salford Red Devils finally returned to rugby league action after the coronavirus-related season suspension, thrashing Hull FC 54-18. But last night, the Rugby Football League issued a statement in response to the news that Hull FC's players have tested positive for the virus...
"Hull FC and Salford Red Devils have cancelled their scheduled training sessions for Wednesday morning after a number of Hull FC players tested positive for Covid-19 following Sunday's Betfred Super League fixture between the teams.
"Five Hull FC players who were involved in the match have tested positive, in addition to a sixth who was not in their matchday 17 – while a sixth member of Sunday's 17 is having a retest after an inconclusive result.
"All who test positive are now required to quarantine for 10 days - until August 21 – in line with national guidance. Two members of Hull's coaching staff have also tested positive. Public Health England, the Hull FC players and staff, and the Salford Red Devils club were informed of the situation this evening.
"Salford's routine weekly test results have not yet been received, but the RFL is now analysing Sunday's match to determine how many players from each team will also be required to self-isolate under the test and trace procedures that have been agreed with Public Health England.
"Announcements on the impact on forthcoming Betfred Super League and Coral Challenge Cup fixtures over the next two weekends will be made as soon as possible..."
A statement on Salford Red Devils website added that "This decision has been taken in the interest of the health and wellbeing of all Salford Red Devils players and staff".
Salford Red Devils are due to play Catalans Dragons this Saturday (15th August) at St Helens' Totally Wicked Stadium and Leeds Rhinos on 29th August.

The RFL has issued a new statement...
“This weekend’s Betfred Super League programme has been rearranged, in response to the postponement of two scheduled fixtures following the positive Covid-19 tests at Hull FC.
Hull FC’s fixture against Castleford Tigers has been postponed, as a result of the positive tests announced last night. It has also been agreed between Super League Europe, the RFL and the relevant clubs that the Salford Red Devils should postpone their scheduled match against Catalans Dragons, after the track and trace analysis carried out of their match against Hull FC on Sunday.
In response to these unique circumstances, the Betfred Super League clubs have collectively agreed to a rearrangement of this weekend’s fixtures, to ensure that four matches will still be played at the Totally Wicked Stadium in St Helens, as follows:
Saturday 15th
4.15pm – Wakefield Trinity v Catalans Dragons
6.30pm – Huddersfield Giants v Warrington Wolves
Sunday 16th
4.15pm – St Helens v Castleford Tigers
6.30pm – Wigan Warriors v Leeds Rhinos
All four matches will be shown live on Sky Sports.”
