According to the Government's new coronavirus Local Authority Watchlist, Salford has risen from 13th worst area in the country to 11th worst.
Based on data for the week 27th July to 2nd August, Salford has a 27.2 virus incidence per 100,000 population, compared to 19.7 the previous week. This is based on a seven day average of 127.7 people tested per 100,000 population, compared to 114.6 the previous week.
Within Greater Manchester, Oldham is second worst in the country with an incidence rate of 65.4 per 100,000 population, followed by Trafford 7th worst with a rate of 38.9, Manchester 8th with a rate of 36.5, Rochdale 9th with a rate of 30.9 and Tameside 10th with a rate of 29.3.
Below Salford are Stockport (13th with a rate of 24), Bolton (15th with a rate of 18.2), Bury (16th with a rate of 17.4) and Wigan (20th with a rate of 5.8). All are within the framework for 'Intervention', meaning that the restrictions imposed last week remain. The average England rate per 100,000 population is 9.
Meanwhile, Salford has seven new confirmed cases of coronavirus, bringing the cumulative total to 1,529.
Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, the latest case numbers show Manchester with a total of 3,460 (up from 3,432), followed by Oldham with 2,302 (up from 2,269), Wigan 2,205 (up from 2,199), Bolton 2,062 (up from 2,055), Rochdale 1,944 (up from 1,933), Stockport 1,814 (up from 1,801), Tameside 1,687 (up from 1,675), Trafford 1,479 (up from 1,475) and Bury 1,397 (up from 1,387).
There were no new virus-related deaths at Salford Royal Hospital.
