Salford has two new confirmed cases of coronavirus, bringing the total to 1,357, up from 1,355 the previous day.
Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, Manchester now has a total of 3,019 (up from 3,004), followed by Wigan with 2,147 (up from 2,143), Oldham 1,901 (up from 1,897), Bolton 1,890 (up from 1,885), Rochdale 1,716 (up from 1,692), Stockport 1,650 (up from 1,646), Tameside 1,544 (up from 1,540), Bury 1,296 (up from 1,294), and Trafford 1,282 (up from 1,273).
There were no new virus-related deaths reported at Salford Royal Hospital.
Meanwhile, as face coverings are set to become compulsory in shops from 24th July, scientists at UCL have calculated that if every person in the UK used one single-use mask each day for a year, that would create 66,000 tonnes of contaminated plastic waste and create ten times more climate change impact than using reusable masks.*
Furthermore, new analysis from www.money.co.uk has found that disposable masks would cost every person in the UK £189.80 a year, compared to a £4 cost per year of wearing a reusable mask.
The website further calculates that if every person in Salford wore a disposable mask each day for a year, collectively it would cost £49,126,693 and generate 259 tonnes of plastic waste.
