HIGHER BROUGHTON, WEASTE AND SEEDLEY, AND ECCLES SEE MOST MAY VIRUS DEATHS

Salford has the third highest average death rate from coronavirus in the country outside London, with 159.9 deaths per 100,000 people, new figures from the Office for National Statistics show. The rate is an average between March and May, but in May itself, the highest number of virus-related deaths in Salford were in Higher Broughton, Weaste and Seedley, and Eccles.

Meanwhile there has been one new confirmed case of coronavirus in Salford and one new sad death announced by Salford Royal Hospital.

New tables from the ONS, or Office for National Statistics show that Salford has the third highest average rate of coronavirus-related deaths outside London, between March and April, with 159.9 deaths per 100,000 people. Only Middlesborough (169.2) and Hertsmere (161.6) have a higher rate.

Meanwhile, the number of females who have died from the virus in Salford is also the third highest rate in the country with 134.3 per 100,000 people over the three months. While the rate of male deaths were higher at 184.6 this wasn't in the top places, with Manchester having a higher rate at 185.6.

For May itself, however, the rate of deaths per 100,000 people has fallen to 94.4.

The ONS has also released an interactive map of deaths by Middle Layer Super Output Areas which is much more localised, and shows that, in May itself, the highest number of virus-related deaths in Salford were in Higher Broughton (9), Weaste and Seedley (7) and Eccles (5).
