'MAKE THE RICH PAY FOR COVID-19' BANNER HUNG FROM SALFORD BRIDGE

This morning a huge banner reading 'Make the rich pay for Covid-19' complete with two effigies of Dominic Cummings and Richard Branson have been hung over a bridge in Salford. An anonymous note to the Salford Star stated that it is to reflect the anger of the people..."The rich and political elite are doing whatever they want and getting away with it..."

Meanwhile there were four new confirmed cases of coronavirus in Salford and no new virus-related deaths.

A huge banner reading 'Make the rich pay for Covid19' has been strung across a Salford bridge this morning, complete with hanging effigies of Richard Branson and Dominic Cummings.

An anonymous note sent to the Salford Star this morning reads: "While key workers are still doing everything they can to keep us safe, people are being pushed back into unsafe work and people are making sacrifices every day while the rich and political elite are doing whatever they want and getting away with it.

"It seems more and more that the anger of the people is very real with this consistent one rule for them and another for us mentality..." it adds.

Meanwhile, there have been just four new confirmed cases of coronavirus in Salford, bringing the total to 922, up from 918.

Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, Bolton and Trafford have no new cases of the virus: cases in Manchester now total 1,538 (up from 1,529), followed by Wigan with 1,175 (up from 1,157), Stockport 1,042 (up from 1,039), Oldham 1,065 (up from 1,058), Bolton 1,001 (same), Trafford 800 (same), Rochdale 769 (up from 765), Bury 735 (up from 732), and Tameside 701 (up from 696).

Happily, there were no new deaths reported at Salford Royal Hospital.

Good of Paul to mention the plight of our hard up pensioners, especially since I am now one myself and have been for the last few months. I think I can manage on the hundred and sixty quid I get each week from Boris, but a bit more would not go to waste. Thing is I give my credit card to the girlfriend and she does all the shopping and bills, I cannot be arsed with it all. My pension comes and I just pay the card off each month.How about our other pensioners like Alice and Felsey? Can they manage OK? Must get a bus pass. Not been on one of these for years. Oh, and that hundred and forty quid pensioners get from the Electric board, that came in handy, I am sixty odd quid in credit now. I don't think us old fogeys are the main concern. What we need in our country is proper jobs for our young people with proper money, not re opening the pits to send them down as Paul seems to suggest. Hands up those who want to see their grankids down the pit.Over the years, millions of blokes toiled down them, only to be rewarded with serious illness for their trouble.I have never been down a pit, but I know a few good blokes who did. I can think of five who never collected their pensions. The pits are gone, and good riddance.

A vote of no confidence needs to be called in to the inept way and response this tory government has handled this crisis many have needlessly died because they were more concerned about money than peoples lives they were winged in to office by an alliance of the media racist right wing liars and vested intrest groups and lobbyists total biased reporting and the character assasination of jeremy corbyn in there quest to maintain the status quo and maintain the robbing of british workers by the likes of branson a billionaire who had the brass neck to ask for a bail out while pensioners and the disabled have had nowt.Johnson cummings had the gall to pretend they were anti establishment eton educated johnson and cummings who drove to durham from london to live in a house on daddys estate cummings better get to spec savers get your eyes checked the apotheosis of middle class arrogance like a thief caught with his viscous hands in the till and still denies any wrong doing and boris the not so brave refuses to sack him which rather begs the question what sleaze and more sleaze does cummings have on his little friend and other grubby tories what dirty deeds are under wraps.The best way forward for us plebs is common ownership of the means of production distribution and exchange re nationalise all utilities gas water air travel bus rail shipping the nhs stopping private care milking the nhs for profit all care homes taken back under control of local councils thats for starters and its not a new concept it happened in the 1945 labour government and it provided a pretty decent life for working people until the advent of thatcherism and the so called free market which through wicked greed it was wrecked.The billionaire and the establishment could be provided with employment we could re open 20 coal mines around oxford where a massive coal reserve lies below ground and it really does and train them up to get the coal for us to use in the many ways which coal can be used medicine/ chemicals and so on etc this will make this bunch of parasites work for us and work for the common good what a great site that would be my little life cummings and bojo his marra doing an honest days work in a pit hangings to good for them make the bastards pay and make them work.

What imagination angry people can show. Everyone surely must be angry with the deceit and the arrogance both Cummings and Johnson have shown. We must regret the result of last election when we rejected an honest , intelligent man to give power to these shallow people.. Remember next time.....2024! Can’t wait.;/may need a revolution.

A WHIFF OF FREEDOM AS RESTRICTIONS ARE EASED

Salford has 7 new coronavirus cases, down from the previous day's 14, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 30.1, down from 30.9. There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital.

Today sees restrictions eased and the first whiff of freedom in over a year. It's also the final coronavirus bulletin from the Salford Star which is closing. Here we look back over 14 months of the pandemic and the absolute communication failings of Salford City Council and its City Mayor.

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
