New Office for National Statistics, or ONS, figures released today show an increase of sad coronavirus-related deaths in Salford care homes for the week up to 15th May but registered up to 23rd May.
The total number of virus-related deaths in care homes in the city during this period is now 116, an increase of eight on the previous week. Hospital virus-related deaths in the city rose to 158 during the period, an increase of just three. There were twelve virus-related deaths at home and two in a hospice.
The percentage of Salford care home deaths related to coronavirus compared to all deaths in care homes in the city is 27.6% which is below the national figure of 37.2%.
However the total number of virus-related care home deaths in Salford (116) is the highest in Greater Manchester. Stockport is next with 103, followed by Bolton with 87, Oldham 75, Manchester 70, Trafford 60, Wigan 52, Bury 51, Tameside 45 and Rochdale 34.
