Yet again, and despite more testing, Salford has seen an increase in confirmed coronavirus cases less than double figures. There have been just four new cases in the city, bringing the total to 912, up from 908 the previous day.
Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, cases in Manchester now total 1,512 (up from 1,502), followed by Wigan with 1,146 (up from 1,133), Stockport 1,037 (up from 1,032), Oldham 1,043 (up from 1,029), Bolton 993 (up from 986), Trafford 787 (up from 784), Rochdale 758 (up from 752), Bury 717 (up from 711), and Tameside 674 (up from 658).
Unfortunately, Salford Royal Hospital has announced a further two sad virus-related deaths.
Meanwhile, the Government has announced a new £6.5million Reopening High Streets Safely Fund for councils across the North West to prepare for the safe reopening of high streets. Non-essential retail shops are expected to be allowed to open in a phased way from 1st June, subject to scientific advice, the Government states.
For the 'new normal' expect the money to be used for, what the Government calls, "a range of practical safety measures including new signs, street markings and temporary barriers", with "local marketing campaigns to explain the changes to the public and reassure them that their high streets and other commercial areas are safe".
