SALFORD HAS 16 NEW CORONAVIRUS CASES AND SIX DEATHS

Salford has 16 new confirmed cases of coronavirus taking the tally to 583, as six sad deaths were also announced by Salford Royal Hospital. Meanwhile, researchers at Salford University are looking for people to fill out a quick survey on how the lockdown has affected things, as part of a worldwide study.

Details have also been announced on how the recycling centres in Salford will be managed when they open on Saturday.

Salford now has 583 confirmed cases of coronavirus, up by 16 on the previous day's 567 cases.

Manchester now has 1,047 cases, Stockport 796, Bolton 732, Wigan 615, Oldham 582, Trafford 574, Tameside 444, Bury 434 and Rochdale 417.

After two days of no new deaths, Salford Royal Hospital has announced a further six sad deaths.

As the lockdown continues, researchers at the University of Salford have teamed up with the Oslo Met University of Norway, the University of Michigan in the USA and the University of Queensland, Australia, to investigate the impact of social distancing on mental health, quality of life and the use of social media during the pandemic.

They have devised a short tickbox anonymous survey which takes about five minutes, asking questions on how people feel...

"We know that the lockdown and social distancing measures are influencing people's life experiences" says Dr Mariyana Schoultz, the project lead for Salford University and lecturer in mental health "We'd like to find how much of an impact this is having on people's lives in UK, but also to see how that impact compares to other countries in the world such as Norway, the USA and Australia.

"This information will be of huge importance for social and healthcare workers as well as policy makers, and will hopefully influence how we deliver much-needed support services for people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic" she adds.

Meanwhile, on Saturday 2nd May, Salford's recycling centres are re-opening for bagged general waste only and only for Greater Manchester residents with proof of address. People are being asked to only go to the centres if it is 'absolutely essential'...

Lumns Lane, Clifton, will open Monday to Sunday 8am to 6pm.

Boysnope Wharf, Irlam, will open Monday to Sunday 8am to 6pm.

Cobden Street, Pendleton, will open only Saturday and Sunday 8am to 6pm, and will be closed Monday to Friday.

To control the amount of people going to the centres, a traffic control system will be introduced based on odd and even number plates. So, for Saturday 2nd May only those vehicles with a registration plate ending in an even number (0,2,4,6,8) will be allowed entry, and the following day, 3rd May is for odd numbered registration plates only, alternating by the day.
