Confirmed cases of coronavirus in Salford rose again into the twenties with a total of 414, up by 22 on the previous day's 392...just when it looked like the number of cases were easing off.

Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, Manchester now has 812 cases, Stockport now has 596, Bolton 512, Trafford 431, Oldham 424, Wigan 397, Tameside 349, Rochdale 310 and Bury 295. Sadly, four more patients have died at Salford Royal Hospital.

As the lockdown extends, more and more events are happening online, including a showcase by Acoustic Amnesty, a new single by Blaney, and Salford Star award winner Joe O'Byrne's ace play I'm Frank Morgan 'live'...

SUCH sad and grim statistics best wishes to all who are suffering the effects of this awful virus and get well soon . ITS very hard to believe in my life time our textile manufacturing industry as declined so much that our brave selfless NHS doctors nurses and carers are dying because of a shortage of masks gowns and other items of PPE this country is in such a mess resulting from the wrecking of our textile industry , growing up in salford i grew up with the sound of the sewing machine my mother like most had a sewing machine in the home for home work /piece work or worked in the 100s of factories in and around salford and manchester . many peoples first job after leaving school would involve work in the rag trade when i left school in the 70s my first job was working with an eastman cutter a skilled job at the time after laying cloth material cotton melton or plastics we would cut out and produce gowns masks donkey jackets for sale in the uk and we had a contract to supply salford royal hospital a little over a mile from our factory on springfield lane greengate s and b phillips the owner was sammy jacobs a great down to earth man and i had some great workmates some who i still see today i never thought that job would end after all we would always need clothing and supplies for the NHS . and now it as come to this we are at the mercy of others and grubbing around the world for basic safety equipment for our NHS big big questions need to be asked after this pandemic is under control and the inquiries begin they must be in control of workers and the trade unions not lady/ dame / lord baroness or any other ruling class bullshitter these are the types that that have led this country to the abyss .MANCHESTER FROM COTTONOPOLIS TO ROTTENOPOLIS .

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE: HOW SALFORD COUNCIL TRIED TO BLOCK AND DISCREDIT THE STAR

Star date: 17th May 2021

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

A WHIFF OF FREEDOM AS RESTRICTIONS ARE EASED

Salford has 7 new coronavirus cases, down from the previous day's 14, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 30.1, down from 30.9. There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital.

Today sees restrictions eased and the first whiff of freedom in over a year. It's also the final coronavirus bulletin from the Salford Star which is closing. Here we look back over 14 months of the pandemic and the absolute communication failings of Salford City Council and its City Mayor.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE: HOW SALFORD COUNCIL TRIED TO STOP THE STAR

Star date: 16th May 2021

THEY WILL TRY TO DISCREDIT YOU...TO BLOCK YOU, TO SHUT YOU DOWN

We are almost at the final closure of the Salford Star but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. In South America they just blow up the offices of journalists that don't play the game. Here they just financially assassinate you...

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
