SALFORD UNDERGROUND TV – M44

"Things will always be the same… And it's only you who can make a change"

A top Salford rap video is currently ripping up You Tube with over 3500 hits in just a couple of weeks. The track, Make A Change by the M44 crew from Irlam, could easily be an anthem for Salford's young people as we head into the election…

"My mother said it's hard in life
The decision's yours to decide
Do you think we should change our ways
Or are things going to stay the same?
Things will always be the same
And it's only you who can make a change…"

Real, raw and positive – watch this video and believe in our kids…

More details here…

"Sick of being stereotyped by the people
Just because we're young they don't treat us equal…
Nothing to do in this town at all
And they wonder why kids resort to alcohol.."

Shot on location in Ordsall with stunning backdrops of Salford, the new video by the M44 crew is easily the best music venture to come out of the city this year. Featuring Fresh Connections and Mikey B, and graffiti from Cruel, plus a full supporting cast of mates, M44 is aiming to bring rap back to its local roots and rescue it from yank bling gangsta (c)rap. This is emcee Salford style – lyrical, political, musical and magical. And shows the talent we have here if it gets the right support.

"Normally we don't get any opportunities, there's nothing going on, but we got a message on Facebook from Suite 57 asking us if we wanted to do this and it was like `No way?'…It was shocking, mad, in a good way…We just couldn't believe it" says Voltz, whose 17 and from Irlam "We want to get our music out there and this is just the start…"

M44 got help in putting the ace video and music project together by Suite 57, who are Mark and Renee Byrne, and the project was funded by Creative Industry In Salford and YDSF.

TENSION, 'BULLYING' AND POLITICAL DOG FIGHTING IN LOCAL ELECTION CONTEST

While the local election campaigns around Salford are pretty mild at the moment, in the Claremont ward it's all kicking off, with the LibDem candidate, Stef Lorenz, accusing Labour Party supporters of 'bullying', and the authorities of complicity.

Stef has been blocked from putting up posters in the local Height Library for a jumble sale and art auction in aid of restoring the old Height Youth Club, been forced to stand down as chair of that campaign and has been met with a volley of political abuse on social media. What's going on?
