As the lockdown extends, the amount of entertainment online is also growing, so the Salford Star has picked out two virtual events which could be ace, plus some publicity for the local Katie's Catering business which has been hard hit by the pandemic and is adapting by doing home deliveries.
Flowing Backwards...
To begin, Salford Star Live Editor, Ian Leslie, takes a trip back down the music years with Flowing Backwards, a great podcast about the region's music scene...
If you're looking to keep entertained during lockdown, we can heartily recommend Flowing Backwards. It's by one the region's great characters, Ian Moss who, along with fellow Four Candles member, Phil Peak, reminisces about his memories, experiences and influences.
"My mind was made up for me by my friend Phil" says Ian "He demanded I do them came up with the concept. He records them and puts them together as I'm a tech dunce."
The shows - around fifty minutes in length - follow Ian's love affair with music: stretching back to his childhood, and through to the gigs he attended in the 70's including Paul McCartney, The Faces, The Who, David Bowie, Lou Reed and The Sex Pistols at The Free Trade Hall. I asked Ian which gig he would revisit given the chance...
"Transport me back watching The Rolling Stones at Belle Vue aged 16 with front row seats that I'd queued all night in the rain to get" he replies "What could be better?"
Ian's early appearances on stage are also documented as he looked find his own unique path in the music industry; resulting in the formation of the band that would become The Hamsters. Over a series of shows, Ian takes the listener on a colourful journey through his relationship with bands, venues, and seminal shows.
The podcasts are brutally honest, smart and articulate. The passion for music comes through in every syllable as the host weaves through the decades with vivid stories to accompany his hand-picked tracks, which range from the celebrated acts of the day to the lesser known and underrated. ..
"I think people have a misconception about The Only Ones, they're regarded as little more than one of the pack of punk bands from the late 70's but in truth were true classicists in the manner of The Kinks with great songs of depth and beauty played supremely well" he explains.
Flowing Backwards ensures that no punches are pulled as Ian gives insight into his meetings with rock n' roll royalty and support slots with iconic performers. An incredible list of the greatest rock acts he witnessed first-hand are examined; the anecdotes are engaging and brought to life with tales of football away days, the volatile 70s and amorous gig-goers.
The retrospective podcasts celebrate decades of music in a way similar to his recently released book 100 Unhip Albums (we all should love), but this isn't a farewell bow..."at the end of all this, as soon as we are permitted to play before an audience again, I have a new band consisting of myself and two 19 year old students from Salford Uni called The English Disease; we were just about to play our very first gigs when events caused their cancellation so it's a case of unfinished business."

Lockdown Laughs For Parents!
Every Thursday at 8:30pm, starting tomorrow 9th April, the people who brought sell-out shows to The Lowry in the form of Bring Your Own Baby Comedy will be live on You Tube with top comedians performing from their own homes for parents whose kids should be in bed by that time.
"Mums and dads all over the UK are on lockdown with their children, and we think that they need a laugh" states organisers Carly Smallman and Alyssa Kyria "So Bring Your Own Baby Comedy are bringing the laughs to them...Our shows will feature the best comedians from the circuit and TV, most of whom are parents on lockdown too.
"The show is going to be interactive and getting everyone involved, as well as bringing the parents awesome comedy - with a brand new line up every week" they add "Each episode will include live comments, shout-outs, and stories from our 'captive' audience of parents on lockdown!"
The MC is Carly Smallman, star of the Rob Brydon Show, and the show can be accessed free on YouTube with an option to make a donation if desired.

Katie's Catering
Katie's Catering is a mobile food company based in Salford which has graced many a local community event, including the Panto On The Park at Grosvenor Park in Lower Broughton.
Usually the company does all kinds of outdoor events, and in particular at football stadiums which closed first during the pandemic, hitting the company hard from early March... "We have worked so hard on our business and don't want it to go under" says Katie Walker.
The mobile units usually used are now sited at Katie's home address and she is doing home deliveries to local residents around M7 postcode and beyond, 'taking all the government guidelines to keep us safe while we are delivering'.
Food available ranges from a cinema style hot dogs, sweets and popcorn meal deal for £4, to Chicken burger salad and mayo for £3 to Chicken curry with sides of rice or chips for £4.
Minimum order is £10 and the company is taking orders via text calls or msg
