THREE SALFORD PRIMARY SCHOOLS SHUT AS PARENT CONFIRMED WITH CORONAVIRUS

Star date: 12th March 2020 LARK HILL, CHRIST CHURCH AND LEWIS STREET SCHOOLS CLOSED Three Salford primary schools have been closed until Monday at the earliest after a parent at Lewis Street Primary School was confirmed as having the coronavirus. Christ Church and Lark Hill Community Primary School have also closed as a 'precaution' in order for a deep clean to take place. Today, three Salford primary schools were shut down after a parent at Lewis Street Primary was confirmed as having coronavirus... "As a precautionary measure, I have taken the decision to close all three schools – Lewis Street; Christ Church and Lark Hill" stated Executive Head Teacher Wendy McCormack, in a letter to parents "This is because staff work across the three schools. The schools will be closed tomorrow – Friday 13th March 2020 in order for a deep clean to take place. We will contact you via email or text to keep you up to date as regards this situation and in particular whether we will be open on Monday. "We are aware of the impact of news of this nature and it is not our intention to cause undue alarm" she added "Please note that at this stage the health authorities have not insisted that the school should close or be cleaned; this is our independent decision as part of our duty of care to our pupils and staff. Our priority is always the wellbeing of our pupils and staff." As parents found out about the closures and arrived at the school, one Salford resident told the Salford Star that there were 'chaotic scenes', whilst a Chinese mother who was picking up her young daughter was 'subjected to vitriolic racist abuse by a white mother at the school entrance as she was leaving'... Meanwhile after yesterday's Salford Star criticism of the lack of leadership by Salford City Council on the coronavirus issue, the Council has now updated its website (click here), and has called a special 'twilight meeting' of councillors on Tuesday 17th March...

A number of the staff are shared between the three schools who may have been in contact with the kid of the infected parent. You're making a connection where one doesn't exist. |

| DON'T PANIC. DON'T PANIC (is a favourite catchphrase from corporal Jones, DADS ARMY) Should we PANIC ??? I've watched the news everyday now about this "big flu bug" for the last 2 months and listened to people views around salford area and they all say different things basically SHOULD WE PANIC ??? I work with the public and I don't shake anybodys hand no more. I try and stand away from people and I don't share my pen, etc,etc..be careful.. The population of greater Manchester is nearly 3 million and so far ONLY 30 confirmed people with this "big flu bug", SHOULD WE PANIC ??? We have all seen in the news last few days people stockpiling tinned food and toilet rolls, should we all stay in? Most people have to go to work. Should we SHUT down everything NOW, schools, college's, workplaces, shops, community centres. SHOULD WE PANIC ??? I'm off to get more bog rolls now. |

One school has the infection, the other two closures are precautionary.
One shouldn't make suggestions which are not backed up by the facts. |

| Well done Ms. McCormack for acting in a prompt manner and erring on the side of caution. As someone who taught for a while at Lark Hill, my thoughts and prayers go out to all pupils, staff, parents and in the hope that your actions will have prevented further misfortune. Best wishes. |
