SALFORD AND GREATER MANCHESTER MAYOR ELECTIONS 2020
|
|
Star date: 9th March 2020 SSSHHHH...IS THERE AN ELECTION TSUNAMI? In around eight weeks time there's set to be a huge amount of elections, with every local ward seat in Salford up for grabs, plus the role of elected City Mayor of Salford, plus the Greater Manchester Mayor job...Yet there's very little campaigning or even nominating going on. Are voters just polled out, or are things being kept low key to keep the status quo? Full details here...
|
|
In around eight weeks, on Thursday 7th May, there's going to be an election tsunami in Salford and beyond... In Salford all sixty ward seats are up for election. In Salford there's an election for City Mayor, a position currently held by Paul Dennett. And in Greater Manchester there's an election for Greater Manchester Mayor, a position currently held by Andy Burnham. With such a short time span voters might think that election fever may have already gripped the city – but beyond some kind budget details preparing the soft soap for the ruling Labour Party and City Mayor in Salford, and some internal Labour Party and Conservative Party wrangling about lack of suitable candidates, there's been very little in the public domain. (Tories were advertising for candidates, while Labour Party can't find enough women to fulfil its policy of one female panellist in every ward, the Star understands). No Salford City Mayor candidates have yet been officially announced, although nominations don't have to be in until April, and there's been little in the way of any alternative candidates standing in the local election or Mayoral election to try and break the status quo. The main parties have announced candidates for the Great Manchester Mayor election... Conservative Party - Laura Evans; Green Party - Melanie Horrocks; Labour Party - Andy Burnham; and Liberal Democrats - Andy Kelly. There is even a hustings event for GM Mayor candidates on 26th March, run by Centre For Cities (see here). A three way political non-event would suit the ruling parties, which have kind of kicked issues like the green belt, over development and fracking into (what's left of) the long grass. This year's elections could be dynamite or a damp squib – it's looking more like the latter...
* To stand in the GM Mayor Election candidates need to be nominated by one hundred people – ten from each local authority area – and put down a deposit of £5,000 (returned if get 5% of the vote) – for details click here There's no details on the Salford Council website on the City Mayor or local election, bar a link to a generic election document – click here

| Why accuse the Tories of being anti gay? The Tories like FAGS as they call them (I don't use that phrase). They have lots of them at Eton where they have the fagging system. When a young boy goes to Eton, he becomes a fag. When he gets older, he then gets his own fag boys who do "duties" for him, whatever these are. This Fagging thing seems to work well. In the last 5 years we have had 2 prime ministers, and god knows how many cabinet ministers who have all done a fair bit of fagging at that school.

| Land registry search also show properties in Australia, Spain, Wales and Martinique in the fxxking Caribbean making Lord Felse unelectably out of touch. No way would any of Labour Councillors want to sit in his Cabinet while the Tory Councillors are too few to take up all the Cabinet posts. The gay is stuffed. |

And you can’t even call someone who is gay, gay anymore, without being accused of homophobia. He’s just admitted himself he was Pride Queen, are you now going to accuse him of being homophobic about himself? @wrote19:26 get a grip |

| Hey BobtheR thank you for those nice words. Quite honestly I remain proud of my charity work including the hardest challenge when I agreed to be Pride Queen heading the parade to 120,000 people lining Manchester City Centre streets. You know what, I’d do it again for charity in a blink of my eye. The said homophobic thread needs putting to bed. I’ve been called much worse along my life journey. Fact is the 38 years together with my same sex partner is special, perfect, simply the best. Where to now. Yes I am a Conservative Party member, my choice, my properties in Salford make me eligible to stand in the election. I say let us do something great to kick out hate. Paul can be Labour candidate and I the Conservative candidate. I would agree to do the job free turning Salford legally into a Hate Free Zone. Number one priority being our Environment protection because it scares me more that the human race is killing the planet than it does me being called gay. |

| News for Excuse Me Conservative. No you are not excused. I thought Conservative Members were educated. Obviously not. Read the Oxford dictionary definition of Homophobia. Quoting “dislike or prejudice against homosexual people”. Felse was said to be a homo/queer/fag, Conservative membership tell us they dislike or hate him. With you dragging up the back reference to his charity pride queen of ten years ago your motive has to be called homophobia. Will you now give us your name, are you a Conservative Councillor, one of its Salford leaders maybe. Will you resign or be expelled for bringing your Party into disrepute. |

| Years ago,I spoke to both Felsey and Dennett once, though not at the same time. Felsey is a rather cheerful guy, very intelligent, amusing and friendly to talk to. Dennett on the other hand is a bit miserable, of limited intelligence (not thick, just limited), boring and a bit sarky to talk to, he thinks he always knows best. Both blokes are gay, if thats the politically right thing to say these days, but I couldn't care less. One is a good bloke, the other a tosser |

| Almighty row has broken out thanks to I’m Conservative. How much homophobia hate is there in the Conservative Party. Read his post the only thing standing out is that Pride Queen jibe. How dare one Conservative filled with hate claim to talk for us all. The time has come to ask each Tory Councillor just how homophobic they are. Salford deserves better. Depending on their replies will decide if I tear up my membership card in disgust at such blatant hate. How dare they give Labour an equalities advantage. I can see Rebecca Long Bailey milking the Salford Tories hate card. |

| @wrote 9.14 tell us why do some Salford Conservatives hate Manchester Pride People. Homophobia is not acceptable. Gay hate Tories should be expelled by Boris. Why is he allowing any homophobia in his Party. You pudding can you not see you have dragged shame on your Leader. Will Boris dare to comment to Salford Star about what looks a Tory attack on a gay man. Or will Boris distance himself from our North and do nothing. The World has well changed with campaigners like Queen Michael in them bad early days taking the homophobic big nasty flack to achieve equality. Let Michael stand or forever let the Salford Conservative Party and it’s leader be known as the none one Nation dildo party of the North. Steve should ask Boris to tell Tories to Stop hateing the homos. |

| I wonder if the council is planning on changing voting this year? May is likely to be peak coronavirus time so it seems likely the council would have to do something about that as they will be unable to run polling stations without massive risks of increasing the spreading of the disease.
Probably forced hand sanitiser on entry to a polling station or something like that.
Personally I'd force the election to be 100% postal votes but they'd probably get complaints from idiots thinking the council would change their vote.

| I have also been watching this. Does anyone else see if Michael J Felse stands as Independent he will bite into the Conservative vote. That helps Labour win. Has he done a deal with Labour to help Dennett win? Politic’s a strange game with nothing stranger than Wealthy Felsey. Let him deny this is the real game in town. |

| Felsey has become a household name thanks to Salford Star we have seen how much Labour hate Mr Felse. If Salford Tory Party pick him for Mayor he should win with the backing of UKIP and other Brexiteers. He has them convinced. If Tories pick someone else they will lose. This is obvious. Question is not who. Question is do they want to win. Salford will never forgive Tories if they let Dennett back in when they can stop Labour this year. |

| "NHS Freedom To Speak Up
There are flaws in the system of F2SU Freedom To Speak Up. This is a recent national scheme over seen by the National Guardian’s Office NGO to protect NHS whistleblowers who have been unable to raise concerns elsewhere. It was an idea by Sir Robert Francis (mid Staffordshire Francis Report).
The need for F2SU Freedom To Speak Up highlights the underlying culture at every level of the NHS of covering up complaints, intimidation, and poor regulation not fit for purpose. Unfortunately, the flaws in the system also reflect this culture. This is not related to money or austerity.
These flaws include:-
- Internal paid staff being used as F2SU Guardians and Champions. These are often also unsuitable like the Chair of the hospital trust, Human Resources staff, or Non Executive Directors NEDs.
- Back logs of complaints.
- Not being promoted so most staff don't know about it.
- Complaints not being processed properly.
- Many who use the system say they weren't satisfied with the outcome.
- Once the concern is raised 'independently' to F2SU Champion or Guardian, the board or similar staff deal with it as they usually would - not independently. In other words, the F2SU just pass on the message and later feed back (or no feed back at all). Often with consequences for the whistleblower.
- Huge processing delays because of the time it takes (even when there are not backlogs). Some of these issues are time critical, as in famous inquests in the news.
- F2SU told me that they are employed in this role only if they favour the organisation. And saying they are not listened to, being told I don't want to hear staff are frightened of speaking up!
- F2SU not doing enough hours or being replaced during long term absence, showing a lack of commitment from the organisation.
- Not being aware that 'staff' includes volunteers, contractors, governors, and Non Executive Directors. Govern Well NHS trainers denied this during a training session on F2SU.
- The regulators CQC and NHS Improvement not being concerned about these issues. The National Guardian’s Office not processing a complaint.
- Etc
These concerns, amongst other issues and evidence, have been repeatedly ignored by GM Mayor Andy Burnham, Salford Mayor Paul Dennett, Salford Health and Wellbeing Boards, and my MP Rebecca Long-Bailey.
Lead Health Councillor Gina Reynolds refused to discuss or listen to NHS suggestions in the recent GM Mayor feedback meeting. Instead saying there are no problems in the NHS except money, and nothing can be done locally or at DevoManc, only nationally. Paul Dennett also cancelled a surgery meeting saying he does not deal with NHS, even though he was the Chair of the Salford Health and Wellbeing Board at the time. He, like everyone else, has not responded to anything since.
They also weren't aware in this February 2020 meeting that The Sanctuary had closed down in August 2019 (longer ago in Salford), with signs still up in GP surgeries and bridges. Including a bridge where someone jumped a few days ago, shortly after I raised this at the Mayor meeting. There is also no crisis replacement service in Salford or Greater Manchester. I am just told a lot of good work has been done.
There are upcoming local elections. I have suggested a completely independent DevoManc scheme similar to F2SU, amongst other ideas which are likely to be ignored. I will not be voting for them.

As for a lack of women, considering the abuse councillors get, mainly from big macho men (bully’s), it’s no surprise women don’t want to do it. |
