The Europia Art Collective consists of 18 established and emerging artists from mainland Europe now living locally, and next Sunday 8th March, the organisation is celebrating its first anniversary with a pop up exhibition and events day at the Whitworth Locke hotel on Princess Street in Manchester.
Between 2pm and 4pm, there will be a Visual Art Exhibition and Creative Workshops, suitable for all ages, including mask-making, sketching and an 'interactive station with European ornaments and symbols'.
Between 6pm and 9pm there's a Live Performance Event, again suitable for all ages, which will include poetry reading, a performance piece 'about sustainability', live music, visual projections and the premiere of a short-film about EARTS.
The range of the Collective's arts covers visual and digital art, photography, poetry, music, sculpture, costume design, sound and audio-visual performance, and the artists now living locally come from Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania.
Two of the artists, originally from Poland, live in Salford...
Magdalena Kij does costume design and is a makeup artist for stage and film. She also creates masks using recycled materials and is currently collaborating with Kristina Karpanuka from EARTS on a performance about climate change. Recently, Magdalena has been working with an Iranian director and activist on a video about human rights and child slavery in the Middle East.*
Miroslaw Ogorzalek is a graphic designer and is currently doing an Arts degree at Salford University. He explores visual expression, photography and digital design. Both artists will be joining the Collective's pop up event.**
