Up on the Height, next door to the barbers and bridal shop, is The Little Green Deli, with its sparse, smart, moderne decor of copper, light wood, white tiles and red brick.
The name is something owner Amy Shields hopes to grow into..."The 'green' is because my children are called 'Green' and I wanted to get their second name in the business" she explains "But I'm trying to promote all the recycling as well and am going to have a small option for vegan food and see how it goes, if there's a demand for it on the Height."
Meanwhile the 'deli' opens as a bar on Thursdays (5pm-10pm), Fridays and Saturdays (5pm-11pm), selling local brews, from Salford Roasters coffee, to 4 Sisters gins, 7 Brothers beers, Hidden Gem gin and rum, Salford Rum Company rum and Booch and Brew Kombucha, a sparkling health-type drink made from loose leaf tea in Dunham Massey.
Imminently, the 'Deli is also to open during the day for coffees and cakes, with hot food and a deli counter also on the near horizon...
"I work 18 hours a week for the Council but have always wanted to do something like this; then the shop came up, I got it and it was reality" Amy explains "I'm still learning but I've got a vision and I'm trying to do it slowly, slowly.
"I've lived on the Height all my life and I don't think there's anything along here like this" she adds "Everyone who has come in has said it's what the Height has needed for years, a little bar, and I've had some lovely comments and reviews. You've got bars in Monton, which is lovely, but there's nothing on the Height for people to go to.
"I'm just following my dream" she says "I wasn't going to do alcohol but everyone kept asking. My plan is to have everything made fresh, not a greasy spoon, but fresh meats, bread, salad boxes...and in the evenings a little gin bar with anti-pasti.
"Over the next couple of months I also want to start a book club, maybe a jazz night, live singers, an outdoor seating area, a quiz night and small private events" Amy adds "I want it to be open to the community. I've got loads of ideas but I'll see what the feel is off people, what they want."
