NEW WEEKLY PAPER SALFORD CITY NEWS TO LAUNCH THIS MONTH
|
|
Star date: 13th January 2020 NEWSQUEST TO LAUNCH NEW SALFORD NEWSPAPER No doubt with one eye on lucrative property adverts, Newsquest is to launch a new weekly paper, Salford City News on 24th January with a cover price of 80p. Newsquest is a rival to the Manchester Evening News and publishes the Bolton News, Lancashire Telegraph, Bury Times and The Oldham Times in Greater Manchester. Full details here...
|
|
Newsquest, which publishes a stream of local titles including the Bolton News, Lancashire Telegraph, Bury Times and The Oldham Times, is to launch a weekly title called Salford City News on Friday 24th January with a cover price of 80p. "Salford deserves to have its own dedicated newspaper flying the flag for its residents and I am absolutely determined to bring the needs and concerns of real Salfordians into the light with this exciting launch" says Karl Holbrook, Newsquest's regional group editor for Lancashire and Greater Manchester. "We believe there is a sustainable publishing future in Salford as a weekly print brand and as the daily online provider of the best local content" he adds "We are recruiting talented local reporters, who know and love Salford, and will ensure this great community remains at the heart of what we do. Salford City News will do everything it can to be the beating heart of this." The paper will see two new jobs created, and will no doubt be looking to rake in advertising from Salford's booming property market. Whether the paper will hold Salford City Council up to account is open to question...

| Do people still read newspapers? This weeks newspaper has got a 2 page special report on Salford tower blocks full of cladding and it's got 3 pictures of sexy Becky long bailey, Andy Burnham and Paul dennett talking bollocks. Also this newspaper has again got six pictures of Salford quays. That's it. |

| Do people still read newspapers? Nowadays people like myself get news from mcr evening news website and Salford star website. A short and sweet comment this week on this newspaper. On page 6/7 is a big 2pages article on the local boy done good, yes FRED DONE. On page19 is the sexy Becky long bailey talking bollocks and not once does she mention Salford (her job) and one quote in the article says "providing more council houses". I've been off work this week and read news quite a lot everyday and just gone through this newspaper for about 10 mins and it's basically rehashed stories I've seen in mcr evening news and Salford star website's this week. The jobs page has AGAIN no LOCAL jobs. Only 2pictures of Salford quays this week. That's it. |

| Felsey, before making tart remarks about the
council,ask yourself the following question.
"What have you actually achieved in Salford?"
Answer,"Swèet f.a!" You are so toxic,that even
UKIP wouldn't have you as a candidate!
Face it Felsey,as a fully paid-up Tory,the only
political action you're going to have is delivering leaflets for the Ģarrido's! Hope you've got a pair of "sensible shoes",Felsey? |

| Do people still read newspapers. This new Salford city newspaper is now in it's Fourth week. People like myself get news from the MCR EVENING NEWS website and SALFORD STAR website's on a daily basis. Only people over a certain age read newspapers. This Salford City newspaper this week has about 8pages of LOCAL news, mostly rehashed stories a few days old. On Page6 is a special report on the citizens advice centre on the lovely Salford precinct. Page8 is a lovely picture of the Swinton lancastrian hall in all its glory. Page9 is a article on a boat clearing all the shit out of the ship canal on Salford quays. Page12 is the citizens that are wanted by officer dibble, and the local scallywags named and shamed in court. Page16 is a article about getting citizens out of there nice cosy cars and onto bikes, this article also has a lovely great picture of our glorious leader Paul dennett with Andy Burnham. Page20 is a interesting read about Salford history. Page37 is a country walk 25miles away in Chorley, why not do a LOCAL walk in greater mcr area. Page51 is the jobs page with no LOCAL jobs, the nearest LOCAL job is Bury, all the rest of the jobs are mostly in Cumbria again. Only 3pictures this week in this newspaper of Salford quays. This newspaper is 80p and it's like the free weekly news most of us get through our letterboxes and takes about 5minutes to read it and then if your short on bog rolls, use this newspaper to wipe your bum. That's it, this is the last comment on this newspaper. Nobody under 45 buys and reads a newspaper anymore. |

| Do people still read newspaper's? Over 45years old people still do. I didn't buy this rag today, it was given to me. I'm not going to write a very long comment on this non interesting newspaper this week, I'm busy. I will get to the point. The first 8pages are LOCAL news we have already heard about a few days ago. On page6/7 is a special report on the council where our glorious leader "Paul dennett" talks bollocks.. This newspaper has only 3pictures of salford quays this week, not the usual 10pictures like in the first 2newspaper's.. The jobs page has AGAIN got jobs in Cumbria and Blackburn, no LOCAL jobs at all. Is this newspaper worth 80p? NO. Also today i spoke with two of my LOCAL newsagents and this salford city newspaper is not selling. Thats it. |

| Like Born# I have tried the new paper. My thought is they are aiming for businesses, media and government sectors. That means featuring high investment cohorts, hence Salford Quays. Probably be a good idea to have a locals’ 8 page centre pull out putting in local grass root projects, save the Salford environment news stories, Salford healthy initiatives and local School news, a grumpy agony aunt page (I may partake) and a blank page on what Labour Council has achieved for Salford. I see the parent company has good executives and with time the paper could find its feet but much to do if it is to replace SalfordStar. |

| Do people still read newspaper's? I've only bought 2 in the last 5years. I bought the salford city newspaper for 80p on Friday evening to have a nosey at it and again it was not what I expected. Front page was a picture of our glorious leader "Paul dennett" with a picture of another high rise block of flats, no sorry apartments going to be built in salford. It had about 8pages of LOCAL news. On page3 was a good story about a LOCAL man that has supported Swinton rugby for last 60 years and over the last 40 years has attended more than 1,200 consecutive matches home and away. Page6 was a article on affordable housing and AGAIN it shows a picture of salford quays, mr Dennett says on this article "I'm so proud that we have been able to provide brand new affordable homes for LOCAL PEOPLE to live in".. On page6 was a article on a new block of apartments in salford quays called "duet development", it's got 270 luxury apartments and these have been built for "rent only", prices are 1bed is ONLY 900 per month and 2bed is ONLY 1,300 per month, it's got a gym and fitness centre, 24concierge, communal podium garden with waterfront views, a resident's lounge with a FREE coffee bar.. On page7 was a article on another "not affordable" tower block being planned for the greengate area that is going to be 55storeys high.(it's like putting spruce court on top of thorn court). Also in this article, councillor garrido says "ordinary salford people are getting priced out of the area". Page9 was a article on people that don't want to stay in a boring hotel room when there here to watch a concert, on hen/stag nights or a night out, they can stay in salford quays in a luxury apartment with scenic views of salford quays for about 50quid to 90quid per night. Page12 was the local scallywags that were wanted by officer dibble. Page14 was a picture of salford quays AGAIN. Page20 was a good read looking back at salford history. Page22 was the camera club page, it's where people send in pictures of salford and AGAIN, there was 4pictures of salford quays. Then this newspaper had 5pages of entertainment listings. Page28 was a article about the "amazon rainforest", why not do a article on the greater manchester area. Then the following 8pages was the puzzle section. Page37 was about a walk around a place called "waddington village", which is about 30miles from here. Why don't they do a LOCAL walk around greater manchester areas. Page51 was the jobs page, not one LOCAL job on it AGAIN, it had mostly jobs working in Cumbria. Then it had 7pages about cars. At the end of this newspaper it had 7pages of LOCAL sport. I'm not buying this newspaper again, it's basically like the free newspaper we get through our letterbox every week that I don't bother to read. The CITY OF SALFORD is not all about salford quays like this salford city newspaper shows, it's got other good lovely areas like langworthy, eccles, swinton, walkden, kersal, ordsall, broughton and the heights area's. The offices for the salford city newspaper are based in Bolton town centre. Do these reporter's get off there arses in the office's and ever step foot in salford and dig around for LOCAL news. I think not. That's it. |

| Do people still read newspaper's? The old salford advertiser was okay, full of LOCAL news, it had LOCAL jobs, and a page called before the courts, local scallywags named and shamed. It also had lots of pictures of hazel blears doing her bit for the community(NOT).. I did buy this new SALFORD CITY NEWSPAPER on Friday evening and it was not what I expected. Firstly, the front page had pictures of 20 people on it,not one picture from a multi ethnic person. Salford is now a great city with great lovely people from multi ethnic backgrounds. It had about 7pages of LOCAL news, then on page8 is the lovely Becky long Bailey talking about why she wants to be leader of the Labour party, not one bit did she talk about doing her job in salford. Page9 it had LOCAL restaurants that was a good read. On page12, it had LOCAL scalywags named and shamed in court. On page 14, it had the opinion page with a picture of salford quays. Page16 had the best LOCAL businesses which had a LOCAL chippy. Page21 was a wedding page with more pictures of salford quays AGAIN. Page22 was the camera club page where local people send in pictures and guess what, there was more pictures of salford quays. Page28 was a travel page from Scotland, not anywhere near salford. Page29 onwards was 7pages of puzzles. Page44 and 45 was on SAlBOY developments building great apartments in salford. Page50 was a job page with NO LOCAL jobs in salford. Then it had 5pages of LOCAL sports.. For 80p, i expect more LOCAL news and stop printing pictures of salford quays.

| White forgets Mr Felse was a Labour election strategist turned Tory whose plan last year removed Dennis Skinner. I have been shadowing Michael Felse during recent Oxford University years Degree in Political Studies where we first met. Note his reason for getting first hand knowledge of various political parties. All I say is there is more than you see on the surface. Ms White and Labour must not dismiss the unique direction of Salford’s rich old uncle Felse. He is not done nor dead yet. I truly can see him as a one Nation Mayor for to be sure he will have a unique cunning plan. If he writes for the new newspaper I expect it fascinating. |

Doesn't he realise that he hasn't a snowball's chance in hell of ever being the Salford mayor? Indeed a similar chance of being elected for anything in Salford. |

| I hope the new paper will feature the horrors of the high rises. Poor access road, lack of local services, dire wind effect from high rises on nearby residents. If I was Mayor I would recall this monsterous plan along with banning green site developments.

| You made me double check it wasn't April 1st there Alice, the Star is as guilty as any rag. It currently has a thread along the lines of the mainstream have started trying to destabilise Miss Beckys run for the next person to loose the general election, yet in the run up to the election in December ran countless stories trying to do the exact same thing to the Conservatives. Hypocritical much. |

| As we all know, a free press is essential to our country. This is why, I was so delighted to see a couple of years ago, one of our elected councilors , going about his daytime job delivering copies of the free Salford Advertiser. I did check his members interests declaration , only to find he had forgotten to declare his daytime job as a paperboy. So glad was I to see one of our electeds do some honest work, I thought best to overlook his forgetfulness. Thinking back though, perhaps this vested interest in another publication could perhaps account for our councils hostility to other publications. |

| We currently have the best investigatory newspaper in the country in the Salford Star. It’s award winning, followed regularly by thousands of supporters and seen as the champion of those feeling ignored or disadvantaged in Salford. The Editor of this NEW paper needs to talk to the Editor of the Star for advice and maybe some form of co operation. Only the best will be welcome by residents. |
