Star date: 11th December 2019

BREXIT PARTY CONDEMNS OWN BLACKLEY AND BROUGHTON GENERAL ELECTION CANDIDATE

The Brexit Party has withdrawn its support for its own candidate James Buckley, who is standing in the part Salford constituency of Blackley and Broughton.

After Buckley was exposed today by Hope Not Hate as a far right activist, the Brexit Party told the Salford Star that it is withdrawing its support for him with immediate effect..."It has been brought to our attention that Buckley has links to a Facebook page promoting racist commentary, as well as questionable associations with extremist groups".

The Brexit Party has today withdrawn its support for its own candidate, James Buckley, who is standing in the Blackley and Broughton constituency which includes swathes of Salford.

Buckley was today exposed by Hope Not Hate as "a known far-right activist, as well as an antisemite with fascist sympathies", which the organisation backs up with large amounts of details from social media posts and photos...*

"Buckley, also known as Jim Edward, has attended a number of far-right events and rallies over the past two years, including meetings of the anti-Muslim street gang Britain First" states Hope Not Hate.

"Buckley has also called the British interwar fascist leader Oswald Mosley a 'Great man', claimed that Jews 'promote miscegenation', and written that 'If we had followed [Mosley] I truly believe there would have been no ww2 and we would have kept our form of nationalism just like Italy, German and Spain [...] Instead we sided with the Communists and Zionist bankers against Europe'" it explains.

"The candidacy of Buckley, who has claimed the Brexit Party asked him to represent them in the constituency, is cause for real concern" it adds "Throughout the campaign Farage's party has been exposed again and again for failing to properly vet candidates, meaning that a number of known racists, homophobes and antisemites are set to appear on the ballot this Thursday under the Brexit Party name."

When the Salford Star made the Brexit Party aware of the allegations it withdrew its support for Buckley's candidacy 'with immediate effect'...

"It has been brought to our attention that Buckley has links to a Facebook page promoting racist commentary, as well as questionable associations with extremist groups" the Brexit Party stated "It appears that Buckley took part in these activities under an assumed name, and as a consequence, evaded our vetting process.

"The Brexit Party utterly condemns racism in any form and wishes to make it clear that it is as diverse and inclusive as the society it seeks to represent, with candidates from all faiths, races and religions" it added "Whatever opponents might wish to claim, ours is not a party of the hard right but very much the reverse, an active force for democracy."

This character has been seen in Manchester City centre and elsewhere in the company of people like James Goddard who was recently arrested for trying to attack Jeremy Corbyn in Salford, and various members of the notorious Britain First organisation while they harass anti racist campaigners. I had no idea he was standing as a Brexit Party candidate. Maybe they knew beforehand and maybe they didn't. If they didn't then their screening leaves a lot to be desired to say the least and they should think about the sort of people they attract,as should many of the genuine voters who were attracted to them. My view of Farage is that he is basically a tory and in reality no more of a racist than many in the actual Conservative Party, possibly less so. Now that Yaxley Lennon (like Britain First) is proclaiming his support for Boris and claiming to have joined the tories it will be interesting to see whether the tories in turn will say whether this is true or not and how they can square that with their faux outrage about the alleged high level of racism (specifically anti semitism) in the Labour Party. As for brexit itself perhaps if Labour had respected the referendum result following their promise to do so in the 2017 election we wouldn't be having to be bothered with these characters at all. Particularly Boris and whichever revolting fascists are gravitating towards him.

The real danger here is not palpable nutjobs like Buckley but "Respectable Racists" like Farage who uses dog whistle memes, non English Speakers or wearers of the vale to satiate lower middle class angst. Leftists,Social Democrats,Liberals and people of good will need to combat such tosh!

This doesn't surprise me. Outside of Seamus Martin, a man of great integrity, and all round decency, a lot of these Brexit Party Wallahs are nothing but the naked and unacceptable face of British politics. The Brexit Party, and prior to it, UKIP, has always been a very broad church. A party of mostly right wingers, and Little Englanders, but also infiltrated by the kind of detritus who support Tommy Robinson and the BNP. Sadly, through BREXIT, I can imagine this nation becoming a kind of modern Weimar Republic, with the ultimate winners, twenty years down the line, being the kind of Far Right scum that people like Darren and DJB would approve of, but that both I, and my comrade in Socialism, Ray of Sunshine would turn over in our graves at the prospect of such scums success. I hope, and I .... I hope some more, that the people will turn out in their droves to vote Labour ... That Corbyn will make this country something that we can ALL be proud of. Miss Becky might be robotic and lacking in charisma, but her heart's in the right place .... And ask yourself this, if you had lost your money and needed to get a bus or a train back home, and Miss Becky or let's say, Priti Patel was walking past, which one do you think would help you out? Do you think Duncan-Smith or Boris would help you out, or Rees-Mogg? Corbyn would. You just know that he would.

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

We are almost at the final closure of the Salford Star but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. In South America they just blow up the offices of journalists that don't play the game. Here they just financially assassinate you...

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
