THE AXE FOR SALFORD £20,000 SUPERLOO IN ECCLES
|
|
Star date: 18th October 2019 ECCLES 'CISTERN CHAPEL' GOES DOWN THE PAN The superloo in Eccles, which won a Salford Star Award for its maintenance payments of over £500 per week, has been axed by Salford City Council to save a whopping £20,000 a year. The toilet, installed at a reputed cost of £100,000 in 2004, had its contract ended in March and remains 'closed', signalling the end of all public conveniences in Salford. Full details here...

Eccles' 'cistern chapel', the £20,000 a year superloo in the town centre next to Morrisons, has finally been axed, according to a new finance report from Salford City Council. The contract for the toilet ended in March this year and the digital sign on the toilet door now flashes red for 'closed'. The loo, installed at a reputed cost of £100,000 in 2004, won a Salford Star Mary Burns 'In For A Penny' Award in 2012, after it was revealed that the cost of maintenance paid by Urban Vision was £26,500, or £510 per week (see here). At the time, Councillor Derek Antrobus "asked why this toilet was still funded when all other public conveniences in the city had been closed". Seven years later, at a cost of over £150,000, he has finally got his wish. The demise of the Eccles superloo brings to an end an era of public conveniences in the city... Also facing the axe, according to Salford Council's finance report, is the revenue grant for the Eccles Town Team, saving £27,000, and £50,000 from school crossing patrols...

| Don't be such a bore, Arnold. Live dangerously. Go in pubs for a piss - And DON'T buy anything. I know that the thought of this is like doing parcour,or bungee jumping from a great height- but like I said, live by the seat of your pants and Carp et Diem. |

| @Rossi - You shouldn't really be using pub toilets without buying something though, so unless you'd be OK with people just walking in and using the toilet in your house, then buy a drink and then use it. |

| 100 grand for one bog.The Japaneese ones that wipe your arse for you do not even cost that much. Sadly the bogs in our country are going down the pan. Some of the places mentioned in this article as being alternatives are also somewhat lacking, depending which day or time of day you use them. The best for bogs in my opinion is McDonnalds. You can always rely on good old Ronald Mac if you need a dump. And just to get you lubricated for the job in hand, his mug of tea at a quid aint bad either. I don't dine there though. |

| No wonder we have so many classics graduates running the country nowadays , we have much to learn from the ancient societies of Athens and Rome. It is a great pity that those running our civic affairs , having been to numbty schools do not have the benefit of a classical education. If they had been given such an education, they would know that the roman emperor Vespasianne, famed for doing literally what our council do metaphorically, managed to provide public conveniences to all the citizens of Rome, at no cost to the public purse, and at the same time enriching himself. If only our leaders had such initiative. |

| What nobody's taking into account is that the super toilet could only accommodate one person at a time, so if you were caught short and felt that you were about to piss your pants, and if someone was already in there, then you were stuffed.
On top of that it cost twenty pence. Believe me, if you're living on JSA, twenty pence is a lot of money to pay for a piss. In my opinion, just go in Morrison's toilets, or those that are in a bookies or pubs. |

| We need a toilet open in around the shops ,as old people and toddlers, can't just run to a toilet when needed, that's when accidents happen, not very nice,a lot of people I talk to dont go around theshops in the centre area any more because of that reason ,it won't cost as much to have some look after the toilets on a daliy basis as it was to have that superloo that no one used ,waste of money, Salford can do it ,lovely clean toilets why can't eccles. |

| Stan,
Think you meant Scotland Wales and N Ireland. Also of course the senior Oyster in London (actually thanks to Boris so he's done one thing right!).
Gordon Brown granted the passes but the same Blairite Labour sneakily changed it. I'd like to see Labour promise to restore |

| perhaps if we had more public toilets then Eccles precinct and car park would not smell like a public toilet. Shame on Salford the caan lend million to others but cannot provide decent services for the people of Salford. |
