Plans have been submitted to Salford Council to demolish the historic former headquarters of Chloride Electrical Storage Company in Eco Junction Park, off Rake Lane in Clifton.
The building, erected in 1902, features a fully wood panelled board room, while outside it has memorials to those workers who died in the first and second World Wars.
The building, which is not listed, was last used as a hub for social enterprise company Antz, in which the Salford Star had an office (see here) before being evicted by the new owners, Welden Limited, earlier this year.
Welden Limited states in its application that the building "has been used as an office block although recently has become less and less attractive for commercial tenants and demand has fallen away. The last tenants were a charity organisation but they left a while ago now and the building is redundant; very costly to maintain; heat and light, and unattractive to the rental market".
It adds that the building is covered in asbestos which will be 'safely removed' before the block is demolished by November.
