Hallie Alycia is a young girl, and the only female in the UK to be diagnosed with AADC (Aromatic Amino Acid Decarboxylase) deficiency, a truly life-limiting disease that makes her unable to walk, talk or sit up.
Until now, no treatments have been available for AADC deficiency, only medication which limits the symptoms, and Hallie takes up to 24 doses daily just to try and keep things under control.
However, Hallie has been given the opportunity to have a new pioneering treatment called Gene Therapy in Poland, which replaces the 'faulty' gene she is deficient in and there is evidence that it can improve her life immeasurably. Except that it isn't available on the NHS and costs £70,000.
There's been loads of events that have raised over £50,000 but now the final sum has to be reached by the end of October when the Gene Therapy is due to take place.
As part of this, Playkidds Play Centre in Swinton is holding a spectacular Fun Day on Saturday, 19th October, complete with Halloween style fancy dress, a 'bouncathon', face painting, a raffle and auction of top items donated by other local businesses.
"The funds raised from our event will hopefully go some way to paying for this treatment and we hope to improve Hallie's quality of life" says Matthew O'Neill Director of the Centre, which also supports Salford Foodbank
"As a small business, we understand that we cannot support all causes, however when we found out about Hallie and saw the possibility that we could help her to get life changing Gene Therapy, we decided to offer the full play centre to the family on the 19th October in the knowledge that the good people of Salford would want to support the family to raise the funds for Hallie" he adds.
Although Hallie lives just outside Salford, her mum was born and brought up in the city, and it's hoped that as many people from the community as possible will attend with their children and help support this incredibly worthy cause.
