Lindsey Davies MCs an evening brimming with local talent, as the Mongrel Variety Show brings a quality bill to one of Manchester's iconic comedy venues, the Frog and Bucket.

Singer/songwriter Andy Bean is a great Salfordian troubadour; a gifted musician and an emotive and melodic vocalist. His songs offer honest and heartfelt snapshots of life.
I first saw Andy at Salford Arts Theatre supporting his old mate J.B. Barrington in 2015..."I grew up in Little Hulton, a year or two above JB at the same school, Joseph Eastham's, or Joeys" he informs, adding that for this event he'll be joined by his brother..."Our Steve is gonna be doing this gig with us, like a reunion, and after that carry on working on music together as The Beans".
With such a wealth of talent from one area, it comes as no surprise that Andy also knows another member of the bill..."Steve Harris is also from LH, I played guitar for his hip hop act First Offence in the 90's."
Experienced funny-man Steve Harris, a former winner of North West Comedian of the Year, has toured worldwide, been a circuit favourite, and has performed as support to some of stand-ups biggest names including Peter Kay, Lee Evans and Johnny Vegas.
Also from Little Hulton, Salford Star Award Winner J.B. Barrington brings his endearing poetry and wit to the bill. J.B. is always well received by all manner of audiences. He has toured with Sleaford Mods and Reverend and the Makers, and is becoming something of a festival favourite. He adds an edgy splash of class to any event.
The unrivalled Patchwork Rattlebag remain an enigmatic and interesting proposition. They are a mercurial group that can perform everything from harmonic, acoustic sets to full-on electro pop, and pretty much everything in-between. It'll be worth attending just to see what they have in store from a genre that is completely their own.
The bill is completed by Simon Lomas, a comedian with a huge buzz growing around his stand-up, and Marvin Cheeseman, a great comedian and poet, and the undisputed master of the irreverent limerick, with a multitude of quick-fire verse dedicated to a wide bunch of characters including Richard Whiteley, Norman Whiteside and William Shatner. Marvin is a gifted performer and has a fine line in deft wordplay and deadpan brilliance.
Get along for an unmissable night of poems, comedy and outstanding music...
